MME problem, color code says bad signal
So I ran my savage today that has an XO1 system in it and it ran fine. I decided to recalibrate and reset everything after I updated the firmware on the ESC. I used castle link to set up the settings I had before. I rebound my sr3100 receiver to my DX3R and upon plugging in the ESC, all colors flashed and it beeped. This color code and beeping means that there is a bad signal between the receiver and esc or receiver and transmitter, according to Castle. It can't be either because I plugged in a servo and it worked. Furthermore, I tried another receiver and I got the same color code. Everything worked fine earlier today, but I have a feeling that updating the firmware completely screwed up everything.
I know that it isn't my batteries, receiver, or transmitter so it must be something with the esc or its wires. This too doesn't make sense because it was running literally 30 minutes ago on the same batteries, rx, tx, etc. I've tried rebinding, updating settings in castle link, but the problem still persists. I'm going to sleep on it, but I am stumped. |
Now thats strange.... was running my buggy on our track tonite and slighly bumped the weeping tile and...nothing. Walked over to buggy and could hear it beeping. The ESC (Castle MMM) was flashing yellow only and beeping every second or so. Unplugged battery, re-inserted and back to good again. Then as I was ready to put body back on, it started doing it again.
Checked the temp, ok at 120F, wasnt sure of the code it was giving at the time but a few minutes later, plugged the lipo back in, body on and ran it for 5 minutes or so till we decided it was getting too dark. I too, am on the latest firmware....1st time this has happened and I've ran it 2-3 times a week for the last couple months. I'm going to try reverting back to the last firmware version based on your problem and mine to see if that doesn't cure it. Weird tho..... |
Some brands of ESC require a factory reset to fully wipe out the old saved settings after a firmware upgrade. Not sure if the MME is one of them, but check the ESC manual.

I still haven't figured out what is wrong. The only detail I didn't mention was that I updated the castle link software to the newest version.
Also, I cannot recalibrate anything because there is no communication between the receiver and ESC, even though the batteries are powering the servo. Furthermore, Castle's FAQ says that I should mess around with transmitter settings, which I have, but specifically to set the endpoints to between 100 and 120%, which I also have done. I'm running out of patience and ideas on what went wrong in the 20 minutes I stopped running it. I will try to revert to older software, but I don't know if I can do that off the top of my head. |
Just for the heck of it, un-plug the servo, try binding and calibrating and see what happens.

I did try that, but now I have two other problems. I plugged in my other MMM esc and the lipo cutoff doesn't work any longer so I just fried my batteries (I'm charging them to see if the overdischarge ruined them). Now I need to buy a lipo cutoff alarm...but that esc got my truck running fine. The original problem was I needed to recalibrate my MME via full throttle + turn on system technique in the manual. Obviously I can't do this now because there is a 'bad signal' between the MME and rx/tx.
The other thing I did not try was trying to program/calibrate with fully charged batteries, but I really doubt that has anything to do with my problem. If I can get my batteries to charge to max then I will retry everything I can. I'm pretty bummed out about this because I probably just ruined a couple Turnigy batteries, I have 2 ESC's with malfunctions, and I need to probably get a lipo cutoff alarm. |
Have you tried to reset the endpoints on the esc? Hold full throttle and turn it on/plug it in.
Is this a traxxas esc? make sure the 'traxxas link' box is unchecked in the castle link settings. Lipo cutoff not working is user error, no way around that. |
It delighted me that I found out what was wrong, though I'm still unsure of why it happened. The MME is the XO1 esc, which I mentioned in my first post. It does not calibrate with non-Traxxas receivers for some reason which is why you must unlock it with the TQi Rx and Tx. I hooked up that radio system I bought specifically to unlock it since all the hobby shops around were not kind enough to let me use it for this one purpose. Yes I have the Traxxas link box unchecked because otherwise it would be impossible to change settings, which I said I could do. As for the lipo cutoff, I'm not sure if that is user error. I actually couldn't tell if the batteries were lower than 3v hence the power loss when on throttle, or if the lipo cutoff was not detecting 3.4v per cell as per my settings in castle link. The lipo cutoffs in these mamba escs is kind of unique in that holding throttle when the cutoff activates makes the power oscillate a little. I sort of observed this so I'm pretty sure the cutoff just doesn't work. I'll probably buy a lipo alarm and just disable the cutoff in castle link.
Lots of words typed...I think my issue is resolved after exhausting every option I could think of. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to rebind/calibrate it back to my spektrum receivers. Thanks for the help. |
