New charger...is this right?
I am new to the lipo world and am in the middle of converting my Losi 8T. Iam going with the Hobbywing 150a ESC and 1800kv sensored combo. I am planning on running 4s 5000mah batteries and am looking for a charger that will charge at 2c.
I just put and offer in on a Dynamite Passport UltraForce 200W AC/DC Charger It should be able to charge at 2c correct? Does that mean charging will take ~30 minutes? Here are the specs on the charger: 200W charge power provides enough output power for high capacity batteries with 1-3C charge rates Adjustable charge current range of 0.1 to 10.0A Charges LiPo/Life (1-6Cells), NiCD/NiMH (1-18 cells) and Pb/SLA type batteries (2-24V) Adjustable discharge current range of 0.1 to 5.0A |
You will be able charge 1 5000mAH battery at 2C, 1 4500mAh @ 2C etc. but you'll be pushing the charger a bit to get it there. 200W is enough, but it doesn't leave a lot of head room.

Thanks DWill. I just wanted to double check.

16.8v x 10 amps =168 watts..
don't think you will get 30 minute charges though more like 45+ minutes as cc/cv last end of charge is your longest time.. |

If your not racing you can cut the last bit of balancing off of the end of the charge, as you are probably not worried about the last dregs of electricity going into the battery, or a super close cell balance. This should cut down charge time quite a bit.
This isn't quite as safe as letting the charger finish on its own. Just every while you have time let the battery finish on its own. |
From what I have collected about 4s packs and correct me if I'm wrong, but 4s packs seem to have problems more often then a 2s pack when it comes to balancing? If that is the case why dump more power into them?

Chargers stick with you for a long time, dont cheap out!! I did in the beginning and immediately had to buy a second charger. My 3rd charger I said to myself, spend the money for a good charger and didnt regret it.
Go with the new icharger or a good hyperion, theres alot of good stuff out right now. |
