The only reason I can imagine for requiring a minimum wire length is that the extra resistance will keep the surge current below the maximum that the MOSFETs or PC board will handle. That would be a pretty lame design. This warning is in Castle manuals: "If you choose to direct solder or to shorten the motor wires, you may do so on the Castle Creations CM36 and Monster motors only. DO NOT CUT any part of the wire length from any other motor, regardless of brand or type." |
Indeed, which LRP?
Mine definitely doesn't say that. Hell, they include super easy solder tabs which encourages it! |
Could be two things, Sometimes the internal capacitors keep a charge on them and if you cut the wires at the same time you could short out the internal electronics causing a failure in the unit,
The other could be that the company just doubts peoples ability in soldering! |

It's totally fine to modify the wires. But! There is a small chance you could damage something on the board or the case if you hold the iron onto the solder tabs too long. Many people sway the wires out on speed controls for different gauges and colors.

yeah i just wanted to shorten them up. they are a lil longer then i need them. trying to make the wiring clean as possible
|
