Talking Reedy Lipo Advice

Hey,

I am in the market for a second battery and wanted some opinions.

I have decided on a Reedy only because I like them - when I was 12 and built my first RC (RC10B3!) I have wanted Reedy/Associated all the way. I now have an SC10.2 and the means to be picky (to a degree).

I would like to get a RC10B5M at some point so I was looking at buying a shorty pack for use in both cars. Right now I have a 40C 4200mah Thunder Power LiPo that was included with the truck. No idea how old it is.

Should I get a Reedy WolfPack 5500mAh 60C 7.4V full size battery and buy a second battery, or buy the Reedy 4100mAh 65C Competition 7.4V Shorty LiPo Battery to use in both? Would the Shorty's considerably less weight hurt anything?

Heats at the track are 10mins.

Truck will be ran in 2wd modified and am most likely going to go with a 6.5 or 7.5 Reedy Sonic Mach 2 - Tekin Pro RS is the ESC.

Thanks for the advice!

Tim

I bought two of the Reedy 4100 packs, both puffed inside a month. Friend bought two as well, both puffed inside a month. Your mileage may vary but I'll never buy another Reedy Lipo again.

Hrm - that is very interesting. I was looking at Maxamps but read the same types of reviews for those and decided Reedy since I have always liked them.

Feel free to recommend other Lipos that fit the shorty bill as well!

I am also using a Onyx 245 charger if that matters. It was recommended to me when I got back to the hobby after being away so long that I did not know what a Lipo was

Thanks!

Ive heard nothing but good things about SMC lipos. Personally I use LRP lipos and have had fantastic results with no puffing at all in TC 4.5 mod abuse. EricW is not alone as I've seen quite a few puffy Reedy packs at my local tracks... Don't worry about your charger - its a good one and will serve you well.

+1 on the smc packs. You generally want the highest c rating you can afford as they will typically also come with the lowest internal resistance

Let it be known that the "wolfpacks" are the more budget reedy batteries, and really aren't meant for competition. (Not that they can't be used, but there are better options)

Would this LRP be OK for the SC10 and B5M?

Thanks for all of the advice, I appreciate it!

I would highly recommend R1 lipo's. Best bang for the buck compared with my Orion lipos. Only downside is to get them while they're available. Some hobby shop's for some reason can't keep them long enough on their shelves. Then again I've noticed that it all comes down to personal preference. SMC lipo's are a good choice as well. Some of my friends own them and have no issues.

SMC. Best batteries you can get for the money. Prices are low because they sell direct, and have super low overhead.

IP lipos which are sourced from the same folks that produce Orca, Aero-model pack some serious power and prove to be the most stable. These cells can handle 3C charging. No deformation what so ever!

ALL of my 4 month Reedy 6500/65C puffed even after proper storage was done.

NOTE: All LiPo cells regardless of manufacturer can puff if not brought to storage voltage levels after each use.

Having 4 Reedy batteries puff that soon is very weird. I have Reedy batteries that are 4 years old with countless charges on them and they're still being used as race packs. I only run Mod, not stock.

Most of the team guys don't like the shorty packs in their trucks, they prefer the regular size packs. The B5 and the B5M will take a shorty or a square. It just depends on the driver and track conditions.
