buy a new sensor board?
I did that as soon as the issue happened. Still, for 50 dollars more I'm wondering if the certified motors are worth it. After I replace the sensor, I still have to buy another motor for my sc5m, so I was gonna put the rebuild in my sc and possibly a certified or normal d4 back in my yokomo. |

is a certified version worth the additional $50. Anyone who has one able to tell a difference. The only reason Im looking is, I just burned out a sensor board after one day of use on my d4.
Second I have 2 D4 non-cert and 3 Certified. Certified is definitly better. |

I'm not sure of the certified motor has ceramic bearings, but if it doesn't, could be something to look at if you want, if you're wanting/trying to get the very most out of the motor. Would the average weekend racer notice the difference between a certified D4 and a Fantom Pro? Probably not, but if you're looking for every last drop of RPM and/or torque than I'd suggest Fantom. |
thanks for the input, I placed my order for the certrified version and am going to send in the one to be repaired under warranty. Even though I also ordered a sensor board as well.
As for the fantom, I didn't catch up to this thread until after I had placed my order. But that is something I may look into. Oh I am def trying to squeeze every bit of juice out of the motor. Even if they are friendly, there are many rivalries on the track. I just started a month ago and have been moving up in the local circuit, so many of the friendly tech advice for tweaking and such has died off and Im a better driver then tweaker at this point. |

I think you might be able to get in touch with the guys at Fantom when the time comes and send in one of your motors to get the ceramics and a good, look over. |
I've been quite skeptical of these 'motor builders'.....and there are a few around.
So lets say 'company X' orders 500 stators, rotors, sensor boards etc. They 'match' their best components, making an 'A' grade motor. Of the 500 parts, lets say only 50 are A grade. These will be handed out to 'team' drivers. Now the other 450 motors left over, do you think they will send them back to the manufacturer? No....I don't think so! They will sell these to the average joe paying RRP. So does it pay to be buying from 'motor builders', or just go buy an off the shelf Trinity? |
Can't speak for any others but as far as fantom, they sell their premium motors and regular non-premium motors (which I think are $5 less than trinity's off the shelf motors). Will the non-premium motors be duds? Not any less than if you buy a regular non-5% trinity.

What about Certified Big Blue?
But if you're not running at a place that's super strict on the ROAR stock rules, you'd probably have a beast to run. |
What's a good esc that will pair nice with the D4 17.5t? Also dumb question... Can I run reverse with the d4 or the esc determines that? Thanks!
|
Orion R10.1. Esc determines and Orion has does have reverse.
|
Is there a difference in power from the D4 Maxzilla to the Roar spec? I cant seem to find the kv on either.... Thanks!

Whats the general consensus on short stack vs regular and regular vs certified for 2wd buggy?
|
Has anyone ran a D4 short stack in a 4wd if so what is a good starting ratio
