DPS-800 Converted Power Supply
 

A local guy converts power supplies and the price is not too bad. He said his favorite is the DPS-800 because of its size, output and its quiet compared to DPS-600. My main concern is the PCB that extends past the case and the amount of exposed material. The part of the PCB for Pos/Neg looks to be about an inch. We have lots of metal tools on out tables and I pit with a 9 year old, so I have a little bit of a safety concern on the exposed parts. I could maybe use RTV to coat it and make it safer. Unsure if I could shrink wrap the end. Has anyone used this model? Any thoughts?

I would build a simple wooden case for it thus the kid (and others, we're all kids :D) can't touch it.

maybe spray plastidip on that part?

I have not used Plastidip. How well does that stuff work? Permanent, or can it be removed if you need to reflow a solder joint?

I'm not sure of the dimensions of that power supply but I put 2 DPS-1200 power supplies into a small seahorse case. Then I can also set my charger on top of the small divider I made while charging. If you want more info (dimensions etc.) I can provide that when I get off work, but here are some photos for now. Lots of power for not alot of $$.

12v is perfectly safe. 48v is about the limit IIRC.

Just put on 3M powerline sealing tape, 3M e tape, or black Permatex.

Ok, I picked this up from the local guy converting there. Its pretty nice. He puts rubber feet on them and red lights to show its powers on. I tried to hit it "hard" but all I could do was 2s @ 30 amps. The fans didnt even lick in hard lol. This thing is SOOOO quiet. He had like 6 different ones in his shop. He let me pick what style i wanted. This one was quiet, small and powerful. I need to find someone with a 4010 to hook up to it and try to charge 2 packs at 40amps. Just to see if I can get the fans to kick in hard lol.

+1 to the plastidip. It peels off if you put it on thick enough. Another thing is the DIY tool grip stuff walmart sells, its almost the same stuff.
