AMB Loop help
 

I've tried searching the forums, and haven't found what I'm looking for.

We are a new track, that has been running an Ilaps timing system, we recently bought an AMB system. Our issue is we run two track desings in the same location, an oval with about 16 foot lanes, and an off road track with 7 foot lanes. I'm wondering how I can keep the system from getting double counts while running the off road set-up. Do I have to install two loops, a long and a short, and just keep switching between with an "old" style coax/loop box. Or install two complete "new" style loops and switch the coax at the decoder. Or is there other options that I'm missing? I don't currently have the system in hand to try anything, but it will be here by the end of the week and I'm trying to be prepared once it is in house.

How is the track layout ?

Here is a very bad picture of the layout.

The blue is the announcers stand, The white is the in field for oval, Green is the carpet racing surface, pink is the off road pipes. I hope this makes sense and can help. The red is placement of the current I-laps timming loop, and will probably be the place of the AMB loop.

You can do it with 1 loop like the one you have before just make sure the wires are 12" apart and put a 470 ohm resistor at the middle of the wire where the end box is. Set the min lap time for the off-road and the oval

I was thinking of that, but my concern is the sportsman off road guys getting stuck on the pipe over the loop, getting multiple laps while waiting for a turn marshal. What we have ran into is this, with the min. lap time, on an average week a setting of 11 seconds is fine, but on the weeks that the great drivers show up, they start turning sub 10 second laps. I'm not always here to run the races, so I'm trying to get it set-up, that it will be full proof, and yet easy for the person that is running the races to deal with.

Run the loop 1-2 for off road and loop 2-3 for oval. Use 2 as common and a toggle switch to choose 1 or 3.

You are the man, I had thought of this also, but was worried that the switch may make a difference in the resistance of the loop. But then I thought, that depending on loop length, the min. resistance of a switches contacts, would be null compared to the wires resistance / inductance.

Yes, I know, I WAY over think everything.
