Simply I'm down on power and recently got back into racing electrics have drastically change in 20yrs

Power is not an issue with brushless and lipo. What class are you running ?

Reason I request is if I'm to get to speed of others I need batteries that are suited and motor that has a person to deal with for info
Tires are my saving grace but even that won't beat brute straightaway power
Keep in mind I've been on track twice in two weeks competitive due to corner speed
It's been over 20yrs since I ran rc stuff
At that time I had assistance in electrical also
I'm wanting to deal a operation that's personal not production

Back in the 90's you had to have both knowledge and skill to get a brushed motor to run well. By comparison nowadays it's bolt in and don't worry about it, literally. Battery and motor recommendations are a dime a dozen. Go see what the other people are running, talk to them. Not only about battery and motor but gearing and everything else that comes up. Just get good stuff and drive. From one tire nut to another. You don't need as many of those either. It's great.

The batteries are fantastic choices for the average hobbyist on a normal budget. You can spend so much more and not do much better than SMC.

I have not used the motors, but have not heard anything but praise about them.

there are a few things to look at that have not been touched on. first is the battery. if you want something with punch, get the high C rated batteries (70c+). not too many people build custom batteries any more because of lipo and the SMC batteries are great for the money. production is about the only way to go. you have the esc so we wont go there. the motor is a huge thing. have you looked into timing at all and whether or not it is available in your classes? our local blinky stock class can run a 17.5 turn with timing or a 13.5 without. most seem to run the 17.5 with timing...for two reasons. timing is huge and can make a motor scream. the other is that you can do a rotor swap for a high torque 12.5 rotor on a lot of these motors and it is ROAR approved. there are a lot of hot motors out there...pick a brand and run with it. I picked up two 17.5t trinity epic d3/d3.5 with high torque rotors for about $50 each used on here and they looked brand new/flawless. sooooo...long answer short: high C rated battery (70c+ and a good brand) and a good 17.5 motor with a high torque rotor and some timing if available. check those two out and it will make a world of difference with your ESC.
