*Best Batteries Thread*

Hey guys, I am starting this thread so that people can post about experiences with different batteries and which batteries are the best in their experiences with them.

Darkgenerals 03-14-2014 07:41 AM

SMC /thread

+1 Since I started using SMC, I'll never use anything else. Their 7200mah 70C stick pack and their 4600mah 70C has the best punch for blinky out there , and the punch will last for 6 minutes. I now only use shorties, and their 4300mah 50C are excellent for mod. Plus they have an unbeatable price.

I'm really impressed with the shorty packs, I picked up one of the 4300mah and really like it.

+1 to the punch lasting, I use the 5000MAH packs in my tekno and have plenty of power through a whole race. Plus several more laps before and after the race.

This might be a dumb question but can you use shorty packs in a 1/10th onroad application

SouthFloridaApp 03-14-2014 09:47 PM

SMC
Pro-match racing gets some love too...

I will not purchase gens ace or nanotechs as I have experienced too many failures, thus the cost is very high in the long run..

You can, but you would have to add some lead weights to help balance the chassis as you motor, esc, servo and receiver are (on most chassis) on one side.

+1 on SMC. I have an SMC saddle pack in my 4wd buggy and am happy with it.

advpball 03-15-2014 09:58 AM

smc batteries are the best and so are there motors!!!!!

hyujmn 03-15-2014 10:41 AM

I vote for the r1wurks Power Push 7200mah lipos. Best batteries I've used and they're low cost.

Plus they look cool as hell.

dragonracing 03-15-2014 11:29 AM

i bought 2 6500 smc packs for my onroad campain this year. i recently bought a 4600 shorty for my f1. i love these packs. they are awesome and a great price. IR readings are very very good. mostly under 2.5 on all 3 packs.

GLwagon 03-15-2014 01:19 PM

The SMC's I have tested on average have:
1) puffed from storing a little high
2) inherently have high IR

My FlightMax, Turnigy, GenAce, Thunder Power & Reedy have all been solid.

Most falures I have seen locally have been Venom, & SMC

Just make this yet another "best battery" thread SMC worship only postings and the rest of us can continue on with our Nano-tech, Gens Ace, SPC, Orion, Maxamps etc. batteries...we'll all sleep better I'm sure.

Yeah, I mostly have nano-techs powering my rc's and I've raced against guys with smc, orion, lrp, etc and I've noticed no difference in performance.

TLR Chipmunk 03-16-2014 09:28 AM

Most of the purpose of this thread is not to find the "Best Battery" but just to hear experiences with different batteries to see if some are more prone to puff or others that perform and last longer than other batteries. Mostly just a discussion on batteries.

reaper7534 03-16-2014 10:04 AM

I've only had one battery failure and it was a nano-tech. Now I've had a bunch of their batteries and only one bad so I'm not complaining. Saying that, I now only use SMC and the reason for that is their support. Whenever I had a question, whether it be before, during or after the purchase Danny always responded quickly.

dan_vector 03-17-2014 08:33 AM

What are the LRP packs like? Any experience? My LHS has some really good sale prices on at the moment so thinking of picking a couple of new packs up if they are any good?

chad_h 03-18-2014 11:17 AM

I have a SMC shorty. its fast..but it puffed. $55
I have a turnigy a-spec shorty. its fast. no puff. $40 <---my pick
I have a G-Force shorty. its slower. no puff. $30

The best batteries I have ran, are the Vant 4600 90C batteries offered at DirtCheapRC.com 44.99 ROAR legal, and the best warranty for a battery company. We have 2 of the older 75C batteries that have roughly 200 cycles per battery, and they are just now getting soft, but no swelling or puffing of any nature. MANY LVC cutoffs with them in this time frame as well.

I have an SMC 4600 70c shorty, and while it offers great punch, and low IR, it has swolen. I talked to Danny from SMC, and he said all of his packs do so. While I appreciate his honesty, I cannot run them because I race a lot of roar events, and they would fail inspection because they are swolen. I also have a 65C Reedy shorty pack that is also a great battery no complaints, just dollar for dollar I can get 2 vants that are better performing batteries for the price of this 1 reedy.

But are they really 90C and do they have more punch than the smc 70c ?

Aswild 06-25-2015 07:03 PM

Coming from a newb, newb never had lipo but in a drill. I bought nano tech 5500 and a vicious technology's 5000 -70, for a few month an the resetence on the cels are low 3/1 and the nano the same but i would not buy another vicious due to the deans plug is fake an the leads coming out of the unit is chafed were the hard case digs into it ,,both are hard case they were cheep 30 and 47

alecladanga 06-25-2015 07:15 PM

ORCA batteries hands down

doesnt puff even if stored in high voltage

great and consistent punch that lasts longer than 6 mins.

I run 17.5 and 13.5 boosted

disaster999 06-25-2015 10:58 PM

I have no problems with Team Silverback Batteries. I bought a 1 cell pack before and it started to puff. I emailed Silverback and they replaced it with an newer model for free.

Since then Ive bought their 2 cell shorty and regular 2 cell packs and have no complaints.

hyujmn 06-26-2015 01:52 PM

R1Wurks Lipos you can buy from TQRC. Love these batteries. Low cost, very low IR, and half the price of ORCA batteries.

Jah2000 06-26-2015 02:04 PM

Are Zippy battery packs good? How the quality? Any puffing?
