Blinky mode and ESC current.

Hi Guys, I race stock 17.5 blinky and I'm just trying to get my head around not so much the obvious part of blinky mode(no timing, reverse or boost) but the current rating of the ESC's.

I've got a HW Xtreme Stock which has a current rating of 60/380A where as the HW XERUN Stock Spec is rated at 100/600A.

Does blinky mode have any impact on the current that the ESC can put out?

In other words, would the stock spec be faster than the xtreme stock just because of the current it can put out?

Cheers

No. Current is drawn by your motor, not put out of the ESC. In theory, a 17.5 motor drawing xyz amps on ESC a will draw xyz amps ESC b; that's actually the point of blinky mode even.

Have done some tests on this and found:

VTA car 17.5 Blinky pulled 35-40 Amps on dead start (burst) average 7 Amps down a straight

4wd Buggy 17.5 pulled 35 Amps on dead start, averaged 12 amps on a straight

So based on that a 35A Esc is plenty (as burst rating will be 100ish)

The ESC can't provide more than the motor wants, the lower the motor turn the more amps it will pull (at least with 2 pole motors)

So it'd only really be an issue if I ended up trying to go to Mod with the stock ESC?

Then what's the point of ESC's like the HW Stock spec and Orion Stock 100A? Meant for classes like 10.5 blinky or something?

Correct and correct. In fact, here in the U.S., many racers running 17.5/blinky are happy with the HW JustStock even: http://www.falconsekido.com/products...c-blue-edition

A 30-40A Esc is plenty for Stock, I think people underestimate some of these 'lower end' speedies, I mean the Mamba Max Pro is only good for 80 Amps Constant.

Well, the Stock Spec has a better on resistance than the Extreme Stock, so it could be a tiny bit "punchier". Plus, according to the specs, the Stock Spec weighs a little less(about a quarter of an ounce) & it can handle mod motors easily, so if you want to go to a much hotter motor later, the Stock Spec will handle it fine, while the Extreme Stock I believe should not run hotter than a 10.5 or 11.5(so running say, an 8.5 in a buggy would not be a good idea, though the Stock Spec can handle it easily)...

Agreed, in fact I have a Justock in my VTA car(used it to replace an old Novak GTB) & I love it, don't seem to have given up ANY performance, & even saved about 25 grams of weight in the process...
