Question about brushed motor

We run a Spec class at our local carpet truck where you have to run either a Proton Speed 2 or a Dynamite 20 turn motor. There a couple guys that just seem to fast that supposedly have the same equipment as the rest of us.

I run the brake-out class and do well in it and they are always trying to get me in the open spec class. I watch them consistently run 4.4 where I'm generally in the 4.6 area, but get down to 4.5 quite often if I don't watch it ( 4.6 is our brake-out time )

My question is about the Proton Speed 2 motor. I got to looking at theirs and noticed it has a cooling fan inside of it. Every other person who has one does not have this fan in it. I'm wondering if they have just removed the sticker and slapped it on some other motor ( theirs still looks like a closed endbell ).

So, at any time did the Photons have a fan. I don't want to bring this up to the race director and look like a ass, this is supposed to be a level playing field though.

Thanks

Seems to me, if it is a spec class, then they should have inspections..

If you have a photon motor from Tower, and it doesn't have the fan and theirs does, then something is going on...

The track just started so inspections aren't really being enforced at the moment, pretty much honor system. Within 2 weeks it will go to inspections following the race - top 3 inspected.

Most of us are getting our motors from the same LHS and none of ours have fans. Sucks cause I'm friendly with the guy, but don't like cheaters much.

Honestly don't know if the tech crew would catch it, they did a pretty good job on it.

Have you spoken to the guy concerned about his motor? Just make out you've noticed the fan and wander what difference it makes etc??

This is the reason most spec classes dont last. I know when I used to race stock class that we would buy 10-15 motors and dyno them all then tune the ones that we didn't want and resale them.

I have no problem in finding the best in the bunch and tuning for best performance, it's when it is outside the rules it irks me.

Dan,

I haven't approached him yet. If I ask about it and he doesn't change, then the race director confronts him, comes right back at me.

I will just tell the director that I've seen some motors that don't look right and not name names. Until that's sorted out Ill stay in my break out class only.
