Ammo Box

Hello, thinking to get a AMMO Box to store lipo. Does Lipo batteries need to breathe; AMMO box is air tight? Thx

The point of the ammo box is to keep the contents contained with no air! Flames need air to exist so no air = no fire.

:weird:

If you seal the box, it will probably go kaboom! ;)

xxx123, just make sure it locks, but does not seal.

Drill a few vent holes and it should be fine. But yea these batteries need to vent!

I've also seen several people drill holes in the sides for the leads, and they charge their batteries inside the ammo box. IMHO this is a great idea. Haven't needed to try it myself as I'm a nitro guy that still uses NIMH receiver packs. However, I'm thinking about getting into electric, and this is how I'd plan to charge and store my lipos.

O yes you're correct. You would need to vent the box. Thanks.

Is the purpose of the ammo box just to contain fire, if so could a small all metal toolbox be used or will the ammo box hold up a lot better?

Ammo boxes are strong. A smaller metal box that is well made should work.

+1 on the vent holes, in case of a flameout, it will allow the pressure (and smoke) to vent and prevent an explosion from over pressuring the container.

There are a couple of Battery / Charger manufacturers that have started selling metal Lipo safes complete with charging leads attached. A great idea, just make sure you charge in one and store in another. Wouldn't want a bad charging incident to take out all your Lipos would ya!!!

I was considering an ammo box for storage. If you aren't charging, just storing why is it an issue that it is air tight?
