Forgive me - I got the quoting messed up when I was segmenting sections your your reply to intersperse my comments. But I feel no need to edit my post.

Are we still arguing about a $100 product that will last 10+ years? People spend that much money multiple times a year on speedos and never bat an eye.

Thats because"speedos" have a multitude of functions and technology built into them, and they are the brain of the car.

And you'll never use one for as long as you'll use a transponder, over the course of 10 years the transponder will cost you on average $10 a year. What are you going to spend on speedos in 10 years, thousands? I'm all for lowering the price on transponders but until someone steps up and creates some competition I'll spend the $100 and use it for years to come.

I have an idea, I'll sell you a transponder for $10 but the catch is you'll need a new one every year. If they were sold this way everyone would be fat and happy.

There are plenty of people who run ESCs for years. I don't think it is a good comparison.

For 10+ years? I highly doubt it, and if they are they are the extreme exception not the rule.

The same goes for transponders... :rolleyes:

Plenty of people fubar the wring on the non serviceable mylaps/amb transponders.


Lets not forget the battery operated house transponders that were $200+ each. I doubt any of them are still in working order.

No not for a decade, I would love to see a MyLaps that has been working fine for a decade. Lets not forget how many people had to replace transponders due to changes in technology/older transponders no longer being supported by the system the track uses. That doesn't even take into account transponders that have stopped working.

My local track that I just raced at today and every Wednesday still has 15 yellow and 15 black house transponders that are still in working order. My son uses an AMB transponder I bought used back in Jan 2007, if I had to guess I say that transponder is very close to 8 years old if not older.

I still have two AMB DP's that were bought in 2001. They worked with my rc decoder, rc3 decoder, and now with my rc4 decoder...

My track still has 20 rechargeable house transponders from 2001. We have RC4 and they work great. In fact, the signal coming from them is stronger than personals..

How many times have they been hacked back together after replacing the batteries?

I'll take a picture on Wednesday and post them to show that none of them have been hacked to replace batteries. I believe 2 of the transponders are no longer working.
