What does DRRS punch or start punch does exactly ?
 

Hello everybody,

I'm trying to figure out what does the "DRRS punch" or "start punch" does on the Hobbywing and Speed passion ESC.
I always assumed that they were just the throttle exp curve that you have on the transmitter but on the ESC... the second way it could have worked I though is by limiting the torque in the acceleration.

But both these theories are wrong after some test I made:
-I tried with a slow mo camera mode 240fps to set up the throttle EPA at 25% and 50% with punch at #1 and #7 with not the slightest difference either in speed or acceleration. So that invalidates the throttle curve response idea. The motor speed/throttle stick position relationship is the same regardless punch mode.

-Then I tried the same setup but to see the torque I held down the rear wheel and watched when the front end lift. At 50% EPA both same height same slipping noise. At 25% EPA both stalled with the very same noise frequency.
Final test was to again lock the rear wheels start with something like 70% EPA and drop it until motor stalls... Both punch #1 and 7# stalled at about 45-46 EPA.

So if the Torque doesn't change and the speed doesn't change, what does it actualy do ?

I'm a bit lost here.

Ps: I may have a start for an answer. After some more reading it seems that this punch start thing limits the current peak (torque I guess) but as the setup I have at the moment is a 13.5t motor it is quite possible that the motor just doesn't reach any peak even fully tamed down.

That is basically it...it is what I would equate to "instantaneous torque". So 1 being the lowest instant torque, and 10 being the max out instant torque. This is similar to using the throttle curves on the radio, but really only covers the very beginning of the curve.
