Battery and motor question(s)

Looking to start racing, so I need to upgrade my NiMH's and locked timing motor. I'm only looking to get into Stock 2WD Short Course right now, so that's what I'm looking for help with. I don't mind spending the money on the best batteries or motors, but if there are products out there that aren't top dollar that'll perform better I'd rather do that. So here's what I need suggestions on:
Batteries - 2s, 5000+ MAH, 60/65c
Motor - 17.5t

Thanks for looking and hopefully helping out.

Tekin gen 2 17.5, shoot you can even find the tekin gen 1, both are great motors, although pricey you'll be pleased and have great customer service which with the cheaper option doesn't come with, check out smc lipos, what esc are you running?

Currently running a Novak Edge, seems to be a decent esc from what I can tell so far. I'm hoping it should be sufficient enough for stock racing, or I'll be needing a speedo as well.

Tekin RS series is great as well, even the oldest version, they recently came out with this specific for stock racing to save a lil cash,http://www.teamtekin.com/rs_spec.html

I'd double check that they actually require a motor without a timing adjustment. None of the motors mentioned so far have locked timing.

Stock classes are usually 'blinky' which means that there isn't any timing used on the ESC, not the motor. The esc will have a no-timing mode and the light usually blinks in this mode. A very good ESC for cheap that performs great is the hobbywing justock esc.

If the motor doesn't have to be fixed timing, the trinity d3.5 high torque would be your best bet.. it isn't a cheaper motor but you really won't get anything that performs better. It will be illegal though after 1st quarter of 2014.. after that you'll have to use the next best thing. No telling what the next best motor will be at that point.

I don't have experience with fixed timing motors but here is an example.. there aren't that many that i've seen

SMC lipos are great for the price. They will perform as good as lipos costing much more.

As for ESCs, I say spend a few extra bucks for one that can run blinky but can also run mod. That way, if you decide to jump over to mod, you don't have to buy an all new ESC.

I didnt say I needed a fixed timing motor, I was saying that's what I have right now.
