Lipo cycling question. Ok so I've gotten my 308 all programmed the way I want it and other than the PITA of doing that as compared to the PL6 I really like it. So I tried running a 3 cycle on one of my LiPos and it puffed a little. I'm charging at 2S (9.2A) and discharging at 10A with 3 min breaks. Is this too much to ask of a LiPo? Should the rest time be longer? Discharge rate be lower?

I'm thinking of getting this charger. I want a dual charger that I can charge 2s 7000mah and 4s 5300mah at at least 10amps each side. I have a 700w 48amp 12v power supply. How many amps each side could I do with this power supply? Before someone says this is too much charger for me I want to be able to read ir rates. I have not found a dual charger the reads ir other then this one.

Dump master 6000!

Thanks to Mr. RcTech for the idea.
I took the internals of the Integy Reactor 30A, and ripped the brains out.

Before:

After:

I just hooked up directly to the resistor, and attached the wires for the fan output jack as well.

I can now discharge 7.4 2S @ 20A + on my 308 with regenerative discharge!

I'll post a screen shot of my 308 while discharging, shortly.

You can run pretty much up to the 48amp limit however keeping it at 40 (combined) or under should be more fine.

Nice SeanB! If you do a write up, I will add it to the first post!

edit: I was looking at the "dumper" from the RMS website, but $200 seemed very steep. The integy looks to be a much cheaper alternative.

Wow, if you have a power supply that can put out nearly 22% more energy than it consumes, you personally will change the world as we know it... Either that or you have managed to get your hands on an Arc Reactor, in which case, watch your back, because Tony Stark is prolly looking for it.

What voltage did you discharge to? Lipos tend to heat up with significant amp draw at low voltage/capacity, can cause issues. Did you check the temps?

No didn't check temps. I was discharging to 3.85V per cell.

You should be able to charge those batteries at 10 amps each with no problem. To determine the maximum we need a better understanding of your supply, as Microtome mentions the numbers don't go together. 12V x 48A = 576W, not 700.

Hyperion Duos, ThunderPower 820, and PowerLab Dual 8x2 also have IR measurement.

Well not exactly regen discharging, but I like it. And the name! Please do keep us updated on how it works out.

Odd, hardly a deep discharge. Are the lipos in good condition? What kind of IR numbers were you getting, if you checked?

I traditionally pre-charge however many batteries I need for the track at my house and when the batts are done I head home.

That said all the packs I use are the same (4x Gen Ace 5000mah 65c/4x Turnigy 6000mah 65c) so that makes things easier.

Here is my thought. Hook up all the batteries (5000's on 1 channel, 6000's on 2nd channel) which would give me 20000mah 2s8p and 24000mah 2s8p.

Set it up to balance charge at 20amps and 24amps though the parallel board and then through the regular balance board into the charger.

Anyone see a problem with this? In my head this would eliminate the need to keep swapping batteries over and over before I head to the track.\

Thoughts?
Charging wise it seems fine, as long as you have enough power supply.

Off subject a little, just be aware that charging ahead of time is a little harder on the lipos, sitting at full charge.

Thanks for the validation Dave. I only charge the night before and so they sit with a full charge for about 12 hrs.

My current PS is a converted server PS that will do ~47 amps peak, generally I keep it under 40 though. Might need to think about going to 24v in the future if I really start going crazy with the amps
