Difference in lipos?
So I was just wondering, I have venom lipos and I leave them fully charged for a week and nothing puffs or does anything, I also have a few "bash" lipos,mi noticed if I try to do the same with the team crc and the redcat or reedy ones, they get puffy, then when I run em dead and pit em in storage mode they flatten out, is this just a difference in the composure of the batt or is it just cheap or what...thanks!!!

The Venoms are probably a better battery. I would not leave them or any LiPo fully charged for more than a few days. My fear would be that the puffy cell might go ballistic when put under stress and burn your vehicle/house down (or up). If your were to leave them longer, as they are puffing anyway, they could easily go up in flames. It would be advisable to discharge them to 3.7v and not take the risk.

As another note on leaving packs charged at more than a safe storage voltage for more than a very short while, it seems to build up the IR which then degrades performance on top of the safety concerns already mentioned.

7.4v is good for storage for sure. If they puff while sitting at over 8 volts, you are leaving them too long. I usually balance my cells after use to see what voltage they are at and to equalize the cells. If the total voltage is over 8 volts, I run them to get them down to around 7.5 or 7.4 which equates to 3.7 volts per cell.
Different manufacturers use different raw materials, or chemistry, to make their cells. They alone know what goes into them. The better cells are more stable. I have mostly Venom batteries and some Team EAM and Gens Ace. The Gens Ace are the least stable but work fine for my purposes. I just make sure to balance them before and after runs and charge cycles, even though my charger balances and I ALWAYS balance charge. I have found that using a stand alone balancer reduces charge time as the cells are equal before charging. It's worth the money in my opinion as it saves me time and I can quickly find out the status of my cells. |

Well I use the other brands to just bash and abuse em lol I use the venoms for "race only" lipos lol but I tended to just leave em at 7.4 to be safe:D
Thanks guys for the input, I was just curious and now I see it all clearly:) |
Also could depend on the thickness of the casing as well as to if or when they puff.
I have an SMC lipo that is going strong on a month of racing it, only one battery and no puffing issues with it. |
