Transponder Decisions
Hi all, I am shocked to see that the company "mylaps" has such high prices compared to other transponders. I have a rc4 hybrid (which was $100) and was not happy to spend that amount of money on something so simple. I have done some searching and found some other companies that sell transponders that are cheaper, but the question is "are they as reliable"?
Here are the choices: http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ed-Transponder http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...-Transponder-1 http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...al-Transponder What would you recommend or like to share? Please give any feedback! |
Don't believe the Dirt Champ and Robitronic transponders will work with the MyLaps-AMB timing systems most tracks use. They are based on a different technology.
The only practical alternative for most racers that I am aware of is the newly updated MRT deal, but I don't know if that is available yet. And it might leave you at risk of not working with future MyLaps-AMB track updates like recently happened. |

Be careful. Which AMB works where depends on the decoder box and AMB System your local track uses and other places where you might go to race. MRTs new PT works with the new AMB System according to some racers who have tried it. It is much cheaper than any AMB. The second locked thread at the top of this topic is a run down on what AMB works with which system and which does not.
I am sending some of my current MRTs in for their trade in deal. I trade in my older MRT and get the new one for $32 plus shipping from England. Just so you know what is out there. |
I wont fall into the MRT trap again. Ill just get the AMB transponders from now on, and will not have to worry if my laps will be counted. 100 bucks is cheap compared to the vehicle you are buying along with the electronics and radio system. Its also been noted in many forums on this subject, the AMB transponders hold their value over time.

Thanks Dave, I guess my only choice is the rc4... I need reliability more than anything but I was curious if there was a cheaper solution. But as for now I guess mylaps is the monopoly of the transponder business.

MRTs that are for sale are the older model. Many of these racers don't know they can trade for the new MRT that works with all AMB systems including #4The trade up cost is send in old MRT and then pay $32 plus shipping for new MRT.
