GTB no liking Traxxas FM
I have an old GTB sitting around along with a couple novak 13.5 motors. A student of mine burnt up his Traxxas motor so I told him he could have my old system. I have it all soldered up and programmed for him, but it is not playing nice.
Seems like the GTB doesn't recognize Neutral very well and there is a small spot in reverse that the esc goes into full forward. If you go past that spot which is near nuetral, it stutters like it can't figure out what's up. Forward works fine but anything in reverse or brake is touchy.
Any ideas? I tried different throttle profiles. Even in no reverse, it goes to full forwards at the same spot in the reverse direction? Changing deadband didn't help either.
Any help is appreciated.

Try to calibrate the esc to the controller!!

Assuming you already recalibrated the speedo, you could try reversing the throttle on the radio and calibrating again. It's probably not the problem but it's worth a shot.

I have calibrated the controller to the esc about 20 times today. Also tried different throttle profiles as well as programming the deadband. I think it is just not going to work well but this kid will mostly just play around with it. I was just wondering if anyone could dig back into their distant memories and recall if this had been a problem with the original GTB and the Traxxas FM systems. I don't personally use these as I am a Speed Passion and Spektrum user and I got into brushless technology after the GTB was the staple.

While I can't confirm on those exact components (I'm guessing you meant Traxxas AM systems?) I know I had issues with the first gen Novak SS brushless esc and a JR AM radio. Earlier brushless escs were fairly known to produce more RF noise than brushed escs and cause problems with AM frequencies. Using a Spektrum 2.4 fixed the issue then. Actually, I can try out a GTB and a Traxxas AM, brb

Well I just tried a Traxxas AM radio with the 27.255 freq (blue) and a GTB with a velocity 6.5R and got it working fine on a bench test, calibrated right and no wierd throttle/reverse signals. Factory settings (as reverted to once doing the one-touch setup) but switched to profile 2 for reverse, and motor turned smooth while slowly squeezing trigger on remote. Not sure what the problem you have is now but maybe your transmitter trigger is faulty?
