AMB/MYLAPS COAX BOOSTER, weak signal
2 Attachment(s)
Has anyone used a coax Signal Amplifier or Booster for a long 125ft of coax from the loop to the decoder [RC2], all the transponders house and pt's miss or have a weak transponder signal if we use the loop at the far end.
WE ARE USING 1 - AMBRC2 DECODER 2 - COAX - 100ft RG-6 QuadShield RF Cable with Gold F Connectors http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2103073 3 - TRANSPONDER SERVICES Detection Loop Wire 4 - TRANSPONDER SERVICES TS Detection Loop Interface Box TS Detection Loop Interface Box (LIB) [[[ http://www.transponderservices.com/b...oop_parts.html ]]] |
The amplifier you show in the first photo is not a good choice. The AMB system works at 5 MHz. The amplifier shown works over the range of 950 to 2150 MHz.

How are you connecting that cable? Did you change the ends or make an adapter?.. As far as I know all AMB systems & the interface box have BNC connectors.
I've got 200' of COAX,... only time I had problems is when I made my own interface. |
I have the 100ft cable from radio shack with f to bnc adapter. I should get good bnc ends and get rid of the adapters
|
Did this get resolved? I am experiencing the same problem with the same system.
If the loop is on the ground it registers- but barely (signal strength of 58). If I use the bridge I made the transponders don't register at all |
From what I remember on the rc2 decoder instructions, the coax is not suppose to exceed 100ft, and the loop is not to exceed 33ft. Ill try and find the info.

Coaxial is a rg59
From the manual: Detection Loop Track width : max. 10 m / 33 ft Coax to decoder : 75 Ohms, double shield, max.length 200 m / 660 ft To check the coax cable: use Ohmmeter to measure Ohms between center pin and outer metal the of BNC connector. It should read 95 to 105 kOhm. Also the yellow wires into the connection box can be measured: it should read 95 to 105 kOhm (470 Ohm resistor disconnected). |
Thank you Bob Malphurs. That's exactly the info I needed :)
I've kept the loop very short while I'm testing it (2.6m) and the coax is quite short too. |
Below is my test loop. 18 gauge wire with a 470 ohm/.5watt resistor soldered in, hooked up to an old AMB20 style pickup on a plastic coat hanger with a 6' rg59 coax w/bnc connectors! Measures about 12"x12". Transponders (L to R) are MyLaps 4 Pure (3 wire), AMBdp and 1 of 4 rechargeable s. 4 cell battery pack to power the PT's. BTW....the AMBdp is probably the first personal used in the USA!
http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...ps22385446.jpg On the display 119=signal strength and 24=background noise. The signal strength should not be lower than 60 and at least 60 points higher than the background noise. When I move the decoder away from the loop the background noise drops 10 points! http://i252.photobucket.com/albums/h...psdb3f2b0c.jpg |
