Hello Craig1

Yes that's perfectly normal for the RX8, it has temperature activated fan control, it only activates when the temp rises inside the ESC. It only spins up during bootup to show it's working.
Now if you have a Tekin Hotwire device I believe it's possible for you to change the setting of the fan so it runs continually.
There's a short video here that shows the basics.
with the Hotwire3 device.
Here's another video showing the RX8 connected to a pc through the Hotwire device

I hope you find this useful..

Much appreciated.

I don't have a Hotwire yet but will be investing in one soon.

It's been quiet easy to set via the mode controls but I thought it might be the way it is meant to work.

I'm assuming you mean lights 1,2,6 and 7. That is normally a bad wire between the motor and esc. Check all your solder joints in case one failed, no disconnected leads or solder whiskers to adjacent posts. The instruction manual also states this may be an incorrect motor selection and is worth checking just in case the settings were inadvertently changed.

Wrong Motor Type

ESC has been set for the wrong motor type or a short or disconnected wire has been detected. Inspect all solder joints, wiggle and pull them all to be sure none have come loose.

Here's what 1,2,6,7 light indicate.

Possible short in the ESC or motor, try a known good brushless motor if possible. If all has been tried and the code is still present, contact the Tekin Service

Also check that the capacitor is not swollen/damaged and the legs of the capacitor are not touching any of the solder posts where they shouldn't be!

I had this problem on the weekend and it was driving me crazy until I tried a different motor and it worked. It assumed since the motor was brand new it wouldn't be the problem, but it was.

Nice to see our error code identified a bad motor and kept it from damaging the esc ... There are a couple that are pretty useful and can help you figure out problems.

Yes for sure! Although I was worried at first as someone had told me this was a ‘death code’ for the esc and At that point I’d tried three different RSX and RSX Pro escs and all were giving the error. Very relieved to find it was one bad motor rather than three smoked ESCs!
