Just bought a rx8 g2 and was wondering what the default setting is for bec voltage and do I have to change it for 6v and 7.4v servos? I'm going to be running a 6v servo and can find a clear answer and don't want to fry anything. Thx guys

98% sure default is 6v.

LVC is default 2s. BEC is default 6v. You'll need a Hotwire to change the BEC setting.

Hi,

I searched the forums a little bit but didn't find an answer so I apologize if this is a repeat question.

For the past month, my TLR SCTE 2.0 with a RX8 Gen 2 periodically cuts out. I lose throttle but not my steering. I was on the driver stand so I didn't see the error code but someone said it was three blinking lights together. I am guessing it was the Low Neutral Signal error code however I am not sure since I didn't see the error code myself.

I checked the datalog on my RX8 Gen 2 but the run times don't really match up with my race heats tonight so it was hard to use that information. Here are all the facts I could gather and hopefully someone might be able to shed some light on it for me.

1) I only lose throttle not steering
2) Once the power switch was cut off and back on I had throttle again
3) My battery was 3.7 per cell after the race and I was running a 7200 Mah 2s.
4) It cut off approximately 6 minutes into the race
5) My motor temps have never exceeded 148, I run 14/40 gearing in a small indoor track so it has never taxed my Tekin 4300HD motor to where I have thermal issues. The Data log did not show any temp issues with either the ESC or Motor.
6) I run two glitch buster / capacitors

So I am not sure how to begin trouble shooting, I am not sure what a Low Neutral Signal error code really means. If I had to make a guess, I would think my spektrum receiver is messing up since the loss of throttle has occurred twice and it is shortly after landing the only big jump on the track. I had one Spektrum receiver break about 6 months ago since they are mounted in the open on the SCTE 2.0 which exposes them to all kinds of abuse.

That is all the information I have but hopefully someone might be able to point me in the right direction and help me resolve the issue.

Thanks!

If your neutral width is less than 10, try it at 15 and recalibrate.

ammdrew 06-06-2015 06:18 AM

the neutral setting only applies to boot up of the speedo.

On the newest spectrum receivers I had been fighting a similar issue and this may or may not help you in this instance. I was getting a brown out at the receiver that was solved by a capacitor installed at the receiver. Spectrum sells one, Novak also usually referred to as a glitch buster. I would suggest trying that first.

If the speedo is rebooting, and you are having a delay while it reboots but it comes back on or if you are going into Lipo cut off for a short period while your battery recovers. You may just be pulling more amps then your batts can provide. Gear down, Larger newer batteries, Rewire maybe a bad connection are all possible fixes.

Thanks for all the replies!

I am currently running two glitch busters, a Novak and a Spektrum since I had brown out issues about a year ago. So I should be ok with that.

I checked all my wires and everything looks solid but i might just redo everything to be on the safe side.

The gearing is stock 14/40 and I am not having thermal issues so I ruled that issue out.

Guess I just need to log a lot of practice time and see if can recreate the issue since it has only happened twice in the past month but any time you have a DNF it is a bad way to end the race day. I am hoping to avoid any more, might get a new receiver and see if that cures the issue. I have a ton of races on the RX8 as well so it might be time to replace it.

Thanks again for the replies

Something else to look at is if your fan is bad. I was having the same problems with mine, would shut down after about 4 minutes and reboot. I looked at the data logs and everything looked good but noticed the issue would happen at a certain temp on the esc. Short story the fan was shorted out and when the esc would try to turn it on it would shut down. Unplugged the fan and problem went away.

Hey Randy, Any opinion of the Hitec's HSB-9XXX series servo's and its P.A.D (Power Absorbing Device) capabilities when using with a RX8 ?

If your unaware here's a little info,

"While compatible with most radio control devices, the regenerative braking feature of the HSB-9XXX series servos may cause a problem if the device cannot accept a backflow of current. The types of devices that cannot accept this backflow are: Voltage Regulators, Power Safe Receivers and certain BEC circuits whether stand alone or integrated within an Electronic Speed Control. Check with the manufacturer or the Hitec website for a list of compatible models. If your device cannot accept a current backflow, then you must install a PAD (Power Absorbing Device - Hitec PN# 55756) as described in this manual. A PAD is included with every Hitec brushless servo."

When your fan was shorting out did it spin normally when you started the ESC? I am going to order some replacement fans just in case since my fan has seen a lot of track time. My fan appears to spin normal upon start up but maybe it is shorting out after the triple jump due to the impact. Thanks for the suggestion!

I still uncertain what the low neutral signal means but I will try all these suggestions and hopefully resolve the issue.

Idk I never noticed if it came on when turning on the truck before. But if you can't figure out the problem it's something to look at.

Are you running a fan on the esc? Generally HD gearing is 2 teeth taller than 4600 gearing.

What receiver? Servo?

We're good with them. We were sent samples to test our esc's on prior to release.

Randy,

I have a fan on my RX8 Gen 2 ESC and the setting is "Fan Auto On"

Receiver - Spektrum SR410
Servo - Savox 1258TG with a Novak Glitch Buster and a Spektrum Capacitor

Pinion - 14 tooth
Spur Gear - 40 tooth

Thanks!
