Hey guys,

I just installed a new RX8 Gen 2 and T8 2050 into a new RC8.2e buggy. It was pretty easy to set everything up, especially after reading the last half of this thread, and it seems to be running well.

Am I missing something on enlarging the Hotwire GUI on my laptop though? I originally selected full install and I was surprised at how tiny the interface ended up. So I ran the installer again and chose classic since the description sounded like it would take advantage of a larger screen. But the window was still tiny.

What is the actual difference between full and classic? And why in the world is the GUI so tiny.

I recently got the RX8 Gen 2 + T8 1900kV combo. Using it in a brand new setup so I've only tested it a few times. I got this frustrating problem...

(And sorry for double posting. Used the wrong thread the first time...)

Each time everything works fine for a few minutes. Then after 5 minutes or so the ESC will reset every time I hit the brake.

After I hit the brake the car will not respond to throttle. Once I return throttle to neutral and wait a second the ESC will reset. I hear the two "start-tunes" played when it reset and the 1'st, 4'th and 7'th light flashes a few times. I don't loose steering.

I'm able to reproduce the problem by simply holding the car, hit the throttle shortly, then brake shortly. It sounds like the fan loose speed for a moment as I do this. However, I'm not able to reproduce the problem like this if I just let everything cool down.

When running the car, if I avoid using the brake I never get the reset.

I'm not able to see anything unexpected in the data logger, but then again I'm not sure what to look for. If I clear the logger and then run, I get one long recording, and then several small ones.

Any ideas?

I had the exact same problem, could not resolve it, so I purchased a new esc and sent the old one in. Havnt heard back from them yet.

The GUI on the PC version can't be scaled unless you're in the data log screen. We're looking into other options for future updates.

The main variance between "Full" and "Classic" is the stripping of the graphics. I run "classic" on netbooks to keep the screen less busy, etc.

1 4 7 isn't a standard trouble code. Please contact [email protected] and get that unit sent in.

Actually, I think 1-4-7 is just a result of the ESC rebooting, not an error. At least my unit will flash these numbers a few times when I start it.

Any way, if there's no more trouble shooting for me to do I'll send it in. Was kind of hoping that I wouldn't have to do this as I'm living it Europe which means I'll spend money on transport, get trouble with customs, and most importantly: I don't get to race my car for another couple of weeks. Ohh, well. Could be worse...

Randy_Pike 04-29-2014 09:24 AM

Pellot, you do have the option to send it to Tekin Europe by way of RCDisco. Contact them and they can help you get it sorted out service wise.

Aha, wasn't aware of this. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I really like your products so far so it was pretty disappointing to see that the GUI couldn't be enlarged.

Any idea if you guys are using .Net WPF for the GUI? I do .Net development for a living and I would be willing to send a few lines of WPF XAML to show how to make something like that GUI scale up while maintaining the look you want. Not looking for payment or anything in return, it would just be cool to say I contributed.

If there is any interest, shoot me a PM and I'll send you contact info to pass on to your UI developer(s).

To choose less streams simply to go into the data log screen and uncheck which ones you don't want to see. RPM's and Throttle position use the most memory, fyi.

Randy, I'm still having an issue on this and cant quite seem to figure out how to make it only record certain streams. Each time I plug in to the ESC and pull up the data log feature I am unable to change or update anything. I have to actually download the log from the ESC first. Once I do that I am able to uncheck the boxes for steams I don't want to see but at that point its too late. The ESC had logged them and taken up the memory and I'm only able to get about 8-1/2 minutes of record time. So how do we turn off streams from being recorded so we can gain more record time? I have unchecked the boxes and closed out the log feature but its still recording them.

Randy_Pike 05-01-2014 08:50 AM

Ok, after you've downloaded the stream, check or uncheck the streams you want or don't want. This should "select" the streams at this time. We're working on a more intuitive" solution such as "save settings" etc.

Aaaahhhh...ok! Makes sense. ;)

I was also mistaken, you no longer have to "clear" the memory for this to take effect. It auto sets for the next run.

Its not doing that for me. When I uncheck the boxes and close out the Hotwire it still records what I unchecked. Its not remembering what I selected and is still recording all streams.

Randy_Pike 05-01-2014 09:12 AM

Ok, once you select the streams you don't want. Clear the memory via the hotwire and see if works then.

Please also verify you're on the latest hotwire by plugging in ONLY the hotwire, hit the help button. What version is listed?
