Unless anybody knows better, it appears that my Motorola Razr Maxx is not compatible with OTG. It's running version 4.1.2, which is supposed to be compatible, but after a week of struggle I can't get it to connect. An app I downloaded told me that my phone is OTG capable, but it still doesn't work.
Then I connected hotwire to my work device, a Galaxy note 3, and it connected to my ESC instantly. I was going to say some horrible thing about Tekin for such a poor explanation of this system. They say it should just work?? I went looking for an OTG, and neither Best Buy nor the Verizon store knew what I was talking about. They're so cute when they're confused.... But regardless, they should do a better job explaining what OTG is and give more detailed device compatibility. As it is, they don't really provides specs for anything they sell, but that is another issue altogether. If they made a test app to determine if your phone will work before you buy the ESC? That'd be great.... A quick google search shows that a special cable may be required: https://forums.motorola.com/posts/6ec906600a There are times when event the same phone from different countries may or may not work. For example the Samsung S2 we get here in the US doesn't support OTG but the asian/euro variant does.... not all OTG cables are true OTG cables either...some work and some do not. |

I think the app is still in beta, so kind of hard to hold it against them. I didn't think any of their marketing material is saying it will work with android/ios yet.
As a developer myself, I can tell you that there are TONS of different kinds of android devices with different capabilities and different carrier crapware installed. There is no way any company can test on all devices even more so a company whose main focus is on hardware not software. The hole point of a beta is to get feedback from users and to find those bugs that only popup in the field. I bought the RX8 in part because it was advertised as being android compatible. I think the app says "beta", but.... Maybe it's a case of putting the cart in front of the horse? I'm starting to think that Tekin is a smaller company than I thought. I understand R&D, all that stuff. I appreciate the effort that goes into making a good product, but I thought I was getting into a finished product. And I just assumed that it wouldn't be nearly as fiddly as it is turning out to be. This OTG must be a new thing, because I had to put some real effort into figuring out what OTG actually is. It's cool, but apparently it isn't universal. But it's all good. I'll probably invest in a used netbook to use the datalogging functionality. That is, unless they come out with a version of the app that has more functionality. |

Do both devices use the same connector/cable?
Yeah, they both have micro usb. The Note3 is usb 3.0, but backward compatible to 2.0. I'm just using a normal micro usb. I had to figure out that the OTG cable is not "just" an adapter. Not sure if there's a chip or something inside, but the cable itself communicates with the device, telling the device that it is now the host/master. (Normally a phone is the slave when connected to a device via USB.) My big breakthrough was figuring out that the OTG feature is built into the hotwire device, meaning that I don't actually need the special OTG cable. Atleast I don't need the special cable when using my Note3. (I already purchased the real OTG cable, so when it arrives I can report back if I find that the Razr works any better with that cable. I discovered that the Razr doesn't power a device through it's USB, wherease the Note3 will power a device. So maybe with the correct cable and a battery in the car, the Razr will work? It'd be nice, but not a big deal.) |

OTG has been around for quite sometime on the Android platform. The issue again is that not all manufacturers include the hardware to use it. We have NO control whatsoever in that department.

I looked for info on the regular website, but I didn't get to the forum. I've got it under control now, so it's all good. :) Is there any way to access data logging features apart from on a PC? Is that coming any time soon? I'll probably end up buying a used netbook and stuff it in my toolbox just for that purpose. And I'll be buying a second RX8 for my dex408T very soon. I'm happy with the motor and ESC--it makes such a huge improvement over the stock velineon, it's hard to describe how much better it is. |

Also on the Futaba radios for whatever reason the throttle ratio is 50/50 where we prefer 70/30 for racing.
Also make sure you're on the right "mode". There's a setting in the 4pk line that must be set to the "non BLS" mode for esc's. It's in the manual. also 70/30 ratio meaning for EXPF/EXPB? thx !!! |

When running the 1st timing profile, does it still use dual mode as in sensored at the low range and sensorless at the higher range?

If that's the case you can either power up the car during this, or use a powered USB hub to get past it. |
Yeah, the RAZR is about as old (and small) as my bionic and I think any otg cable with the lipo plugged in will work. I was disappointed for a minute when I got everything hooked up for the first time... until I plugged the lipo in :D
