Receiver range?

I'm replacing a broken antenna on my M11X receiver (Airtronics 92744/Sanwa 951). If I were to coil it inside the rx case, how much range would I lose/have? Realistically 150-200 feet is about as far as I would go.

You shouldn't lose any range at all if you coil it inside a radio box. Don't try to coil it in the Rx case itself. Coiling the Rx wire inside a radio box is common practice on boats and I know mine is usually running more than 200' away.

sorry man but why ask this .. just gt off ur chair and Test it and see...

The theory in old radios was the length of the rx antennae wire was how they "tuned" the reception and if the antennae wire crossed over itself that would effectively "cut" the wire length and hence the "tune". So, if that still applies to 2.4 then just avoid wadding it in there, a nice loop should be ok.

Why ask it? Because someone has probably done this before and knows. Its cheaper to ask a question than to crash a run away car.

From what I understand, the only part that is actually the antenna (at least on mine) it the inch or so of the exposed part. The rest is just a coax cable. I was planning on coiling around a socket or something and having that antenna part on top.

I found another guy that has done this and had no issues, so I will be doing this too!

On all of my cars i make my antenna about 3 inches or so and coil the rest. It keeps it out of harms way. The manual usually states how to set it up. I know lots of people who heat and bend antenna tubes to be parallel with the chassis to keep it under the body.

On my cars RC8.2e RC8Te with MT-4 RX461 receivers I use about 5 inches of antenna tube, coil the rest in the receiver box and bend it over and keep it under the body. I have connectivity as far as I can see and then some.

I agree with this, it never hurts to ask and may help answer someones question. Also, If you are going to coil, i would recommend looking into getting a "clover" antenna for your radio transmitter. There is a substantial signal loss of around 5db if the antennas are not aligned in the same direct meaning both sitting horizontally or vertically. That 5db loss of gain can be a significant loss of distance.

A clover antenna on the Tx makes it possible to regain a lot of that loss because the clover antenna is not straight, it releases signal in all possible directions. I'm currently deciding on how I will build mine but it would be easier to have a radio with a removable antenna like the M11x. Soon it will be time to retire the M8 and upgrade.
