Default Whats better than HK without breaking the bank?

I have a Spektrum DX3S and am in the market for my son. Hobbyking has a multi model memory (a must) but I'm looking for something that only carries 4 AA batteries like my Spektrum. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'll likely buy a used Spektrum or Futaba but not really sure which way to go.

Also not looking to spend a ton. Less than $80 is what I'm thinking.

What's the benefit of DSM2 over DSM?

I've been thinking about that too. The track I go to though, the people running those and the other flysky have brown out issues.
