Ae xp3 ss

I am using one of these to run my Savage. It seems to work good and have good range and channel 3 was easy to set up for reverse. My question is how long should the batteries last ? I swear this thing eats them . I put new ones in yesterday and got the bright green full battery light. I ran one tank of fuel let her cool down a little ran a second tank of fuel and when I shut her down the I had the bright red light on . The one that means their dead. So by the measurement of numb hands at mid 20 temps and the fact of 2 tanks of fuel it was around 45 minutes or so of battery life ? What the hay ? Do these things always eat that much battery ? Oh and they were energizer batteries not cheap Wal-Mart batteries or something.

It's the driving it in Montana in January part that's eating the batteries. Cold reduces the voltage they produce so that will make the red light come on sooner.

That makes sense but this radio has always been kinda hard on batteries.
