Problem - ESC Will Not Calibrate With Receiver
Hi! My first post and of course it's a problem.
I just built a SC10 FT and installed a Tekin RS ESC, Tekin Redline 13.5T motor, Spektrum SR3300T w/Spektrum DX3S radio, and a Savox 1268 Servo. The ESC will rarely sync with the receiver (maybe 5% of the time). I have gotten the ESC to calibrate with the radio and receiver a few times, but it very rarely works. The ESC flashes the first 3 LED's during this. Here's what I've done: - Confirmed voltage to the receiver is good via a multimeter - Binded the radio to the receiver a half dozen times - Verified or toggled every setting on the radio including steering, reverse, etc. - Installed a glitch buster - Triple checked each solder - Tried different batteries - Updated to latest software on ESC (via Hotwire) - Increase voltage cutoff to 2S on ESC (via Hotwire) - Rebooted ESC at least a dozen times including after the software update and ESC config change. - Verified there is no binding or other problems exist with the servo. Also of note, and this has only happened a few times, but when I turned everything on, it would start off in reverse at full throttle. I'm thinking about adding an external BEC, but I'm not that optimistic that it will fix this. I also really don't want to add one to the car, but may if needed. I also contemplating ripping everything out and starting over with new motor and ESC (Orion), radio and receiver (not sure), and servo. I've searched this forum and other forums and haven't found a solution. I've also asked the folks at lhs with no answers. Any suggestions are greatly appreciate! Thanks! Joe |
I was able to get it to work last night again by adjusting the throttle on the radio. I calibrated it again and it worked. I'd shut everything off and power it back on with no hiccups. This morning I turned everything on and the ESC was not calibrated with the receiver. I made multiple attempts to calibrate it with no success. I even changed out the receiver (SR300T) including the bind and calibration with no luck. It does the same thing.
Any ideas? |
Turn the system on and just barely move the trigger to either throttle or reverse. If it then syncs up, you need to adjust your throttle trims, including your subtrim.

It definatly sounds like a throttle centering issue. Maybe the trigger pot is going bad?

That would stink if the pot is already bad as the entire setup is less than 2 weeks old (bought brand new). I have a buddy with another Spektrum radio that I'm going to borrow tomorrow to verify this. Thanks again for the help! If this works, I may owe ya a beer! |
Update for those that may have a similar problem and use the search function. I was able to use a friend's Spektrum radio to continue troubleshooting. Everything worked perfectly with the other radio. The DS3X I purchased 2 weeks ago is on its way back to Horizon Hobby for repair/replacement. I will post what the reason for failure if Horizon provides that information.
Hoese37- Your suggestion was spot on and extremely helpful. Thanks!!! |
Wheres my beer? Lol. Glad I could help you out.
