FlySky GT3C - Is it worth modding?
I recently purchased a FlySky GT3C & I have read that these transmitters can be modded for flashing with custom firmware, bearing replacement & what not. Just wanted to know if any of the mods available are necessary as I will be using it for bashing at my local park only. Anyone with experience in modifying these transmitters, please give me your opinions. Thanks in advance for all your replies!

No one?

No need for bashing

Custom firmware is not the only mod this POS needs. You also need to install your own power switch. Apparently there is a design flaw or something with the stock switch. Mine crapped out using it for the 3rd time and the end result wasn't pretty. It was an experiment and failed. No more cheap radio systems for this guy!

Not worth it

Some say it's worth it, some say it isn't. Anyone care to explain the benefits?

We had a racer using one at our track. One of the other racers had his car in his pits with his radio on and the receiver on. When the FlySky was turned on, it locked onto the car in the pits and drove it off the pit table.
The pit car had Spektrum electronics. He never had a problem until the FlySky was used. It appears the FlySky 2.4 isn't very clean and can hit other receivers. I have read that some tracks don't allow these radios but can't say it for a fact; just what I have read. |
Could it have possibly been a one off or a certain model of the FlySky pistol radio?
I wonder if the custom firmware fixes it all up.. |
It was the newer one with the LCD screen. I don't know the model number.
|
Seems like its more of a problem for the Spectrum then the Flysky.

+1. DSM will get nailed even if there are many other DSM radios in use. The guy who had the car fly off the pit table probably did not have his fail safe set properly.....

Check out this guy he does all the mods here. Maybe it will answer some Of your questions. I ran a gt3b for like two years never had any problems. As for the problems with interference with the Spektrums, ha that's Spektrums fault for having an inferior system. Spektrums have more problems than any other radio i have seenhttp://overkillrc.webs.com/gt3b.htm

I have 2 of the gt3b and my brother has the gt3c. I modded the 2 gt3b to except 3s lipos. The gt3c comes with a 1s, which its charge only lasts a few hours. The power switch on the gt3c is the biggest flaw. This switch failed after only one hour of use. Flysky put the power button on the wheel, which allows the internal wires to twist with each rotation of the wheel. My 10 year old daughter could have spotted this as a major design flaw during its design stage. I've since relocated the switch and its been trouble free ever since.

Should be fine for bashing without the mod done to this radio. The power switch will fail. I put a toggle switch in my 4 y/o GT3C, see link below. This radio has been great for him since its the lightest radio I could fine. I noticed this radio lags. Since I can notice the lag at my age, this thing must have a really high latency!
