Motor ratings
How do KV ratings apply power wise? I'm really only familiar with sensored motor (17.5, 13.5, etc) Is there some sort of a generic KV motor chart for quick reference? Thanks

All of the sensored motors have a kv rating associated with them as well, just not all manufacturers publish that info. Here is a link to some of the Novak motors to give you an idea. Just click on the "Specifications" tab.

KV ratings are not indicative of power. Power is torque times speed. Without knowing torque, power is also unknown.
Most RC car motor manufacturers don't publish power output or power curves for their motors. Even when they do, very rarely are all the test conditions given. |
Ok, the Novak link pretty good info. Here's what i'm looking to do, i have upgraded my Slash 4x4 ESC from the VXL to one of my spare MMP's (way smoother than the stocker). I'm still at this this point running the stock VXL motor, between gearing and ESC timing i'm pretty well maxed out as to what i can get performance wise. I'm looking for more power yet smooth and drivable. I'm seeing a ton of sensored 540/550 can motors (listed by KV) relatively inexpensive on Hobbypartz, Hobbyking, ebay etc. and am trying to figure out what to go with.
