interesting. I'm getting back into this hobby after about 8 years. and you just cured my delema of what kind of charger I need. the dc units have awesome features for less $ than the comparable ac/dc units but I'd be forced to buy a power supply. but not anymore.
I have several old computer power supplies laying around. |
I looked into this, even made one up but the globe I have to have a constant load on 5 and 12V gets a bit warm...
I found that some Acer slimline PC's have a laptop style power supply that's 19V @ 7.1 Amps, which my icharger is more than happy with and allows me to charge a 2 cell lipo at around 12-13 Amps. And all I did was solder a different plug on the end no messing around at all and it's solid as a rock and won't upset any clubs with insurance issues etc with converted PC power supplies. |

Yeah the icharger will take up to 20V input which is why it works :)

Very good info in this thread, thanks guys! I have a PSU or two laying around so even if I am afraid to do any cutting, splicing soldering or whatever I can show somebody this thread and get them to do it for me :)
p.s. Yes I am dead serious...lol I am terrible at anything with solder or dremelling or pretty much anything where a tool is used to cause destruction! |
