Rebuilding servos?
 

Only been in RC for a year now. Just kinda realized they sell rebuild kits for servos.
How can I tell if a servo is "rebuildable"? Specifically, i have an old Futaba (not sure model) that twitches and kinda works but not enough to run a car. Is this a candidate for a rebuild? just simply replacing the gears and I got a good servo?

I've tossed a handful of old servos out that I'm now regretting. Luckily, most were all cheapo airtronics.

From what I see out there most servo repairs / rebuilds involve replacing the gears and sometimes the case.

There are some other parts though, some models have replacement mechanics which seems to be just the motor assembly. Not seen any replacement circuit boards, but then again have not been looking.

If it were me and servo seemed to have an electronic failure I would shop for a new servo, I have not been the type to buy the most expensive servos in the first place and as long as I run a metal gear model I have pretty good luck.

I'm definitely trying to go the cheaper route. I've only ever bought 1 new servo. Everything has been hand-me-downs or bought used.
Just wondering if I got the $20 rebuild or just buy a good used one for $40.
Didnt even think about a motor in it. thats why I'm trying to find out if mine is rebuildable by just replacing gears

I'd say just buy a used one. I got an old Airtronics 94360 ($110 new) for $25, fully working. Sure, it's analog and like 5 years old, but it works and looks great. Not a cheapo Airtronics if you ask me. :P

I just meant cheapo as in $20 servos. they actually did me well for a while.

Bansh88.. just buy a bluebird.. u can get these for under $27 with High speed and metel gears with a 3 year replacement.. I have run my Blues for 5 years no issues..I bought a dozen prototype Savox that I also use $3 each LOL..Most servos can be rebuilt if they sell the rebuild kits good luck there..but by the time u buy parts and try and rebuild it ud be better buying NEW..
