futaba 3pk help
I was wondering if any of you have one of these and know a little more about them then I do. I have a dx3s and I don't like it. It has warn out a lot faster than I was expecting a $300 radio to. I have found someone locally who will sell me a 3pk for $150.00 and I already have a module to convert it to run with my spectrum receivers. Just wondering if you guys think its worth it? I'm weary because its an older radio, but the reviews I can find on it seem pretty good. I'm just not sure. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

Most I have seen have been good, mine is getting old but so far so good. It's 6 or 7 years old . Check the hour meter in the display. If it has not been reset, that might give you an idea of the actual usage. Mine is almost at 90 hours if it helps & purchased new, never reset.

Tom $150 is rather high for a 3PK, some may be 10 year old. About five years ago they were going for $100 or less. $300 for a DX3S is high, those were selling in the stores for less. $300 would get you the DX3R Pro. Regardless, I am still using my 10 year old 3PK as a back-up radio. |
I have been using my 3PK for 12 years with a Spectrum pro module. For me primarily because of the braking mixing feature for 1/5 on-road. I still love it although the Spectrum antenna broke off a couple times in the 12 years. I have never had any other problems with it nor have I longed for another radio. I see used 3PK’s commanding decent $. Still worth it imo.
$150 just for the transmitter? Or does it include an HRS receiver or two as well? If it’s just the transmitter that price is a bit high. $75-$100 would be fair. |
My bad. I went back and looked at the original email and its a 3pks magnum. He said it would come with one synthesized receiver. But that's all I know. I'm going to try and look up what the differences are between the 3pk and the 3pks. Thanks again for all the help guys.

Difference is the plastic color, menu layout, and steering wheel.

Bought mine used and still working great for a few years now. Might be a bit heavier than others but you're not holding it all day either! Put a Lipo in it in May of 2010 and It's been charged 8 times since then thru Aug. of 2012. Used weekly most of the time too.

A synthesized receiver means that it is 75MHz FM but that's OK since most people are on 2.4GHz you won't have many channel conflicts but you will need to deal with the fishing pole antenna. But since you hace the module (and it has to be for Futaba/Hitec) then the FM module is useless. Still $150 is steep. |
Well I bought it. Wow that's a big manual. This thing is pretty awesome. It may have been a little over priced but it is still an upgrade from my dx3s. Minus the telemetry. It only has 21 hours on it, and I 'm pretty sure its never been reset as he really never used it to its capability. He freely admitted it was a little to complicated for what he would have liked. The only thing I would like to change is it doesn't have a drop down wheel. He said it was an accessory you could buy but I can't find one. Probably because its an older radio. Does the one for the 4pk fit? I'd also like to change the wheel. Is there anything else I should know about this radio? Thanks again guys for all the help.

Please don't (lmgtfy) me but, can I put a 3 cell lipo in the 3pks?
|
Never mind I (lmgtfy) myself....
Yes you can..... |
Id upgrade to fasst if you plan to use this system for a while. its faster and more reliable than spectrum.
cant get easier than push bind and move tx close to it. never have to do it again.. never drops. id still be using it if i hadnt blown up my module. |
I would but then I have to sell of and replace all of my receivers. And the guy I race with runs spektrum as well.
|
As far as I know all the 3PKS sold in the states came with the drop down wheel adapter in the box.
