LED question
My SCB now has a skeleton for the driver figure. But, to get the full affect, he needs two glowing eyes :)
I bought this today: http://www.rcmart.com/images/3rac_nld03re_001.jpg The harness had a small plug to connect to 3Racing's light controller. I assumed I didn't need this, cut and spliced the wires and tested by going direct to a battery. Now I realize this is pretty basic electronics...red to positive, black to negative, but I'm not getting any illumination  I admit, I don't know anything specifically about LED lights, but I'd think if you hook one wire to positive and one wire to negative on a 7.2 battery, something would happen. Maybe the 3Racing controller only supplies very low voltage and I smoked the LEDs? I never got a flash or anything to show I had any current at all. Any guidance? |
you need a lighting controller. Or you have to run an in line capacitor to knock down the voltage. It is possible you blew all the leds. 3 racing has the controller with lights, here is the link... http://os.3racing.hk/products.php?products_key=2761

In line capacitor to knock down the voltage? Shouldn't that be a resistor?

There is a fairly easy formula available to calculate what value resistor you require. |
Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I now believe I did smoke the lights. Originally, I tried them on a AA battery, but it must now have had enough voltage. The 7.2 likely burnt 'em up. I never once saw a glimmer, spark, etc.
I got it all worked out though...I bought another SCB light set, ran two pair of white LEDs up front, one pair of red in the rear and ran the other pair up to the driver figure. I now only need to make a "switch" at the body mount so that I don't have to undo wires when removing the body. Thanks! |
