Transponder Placement?

Can't seem to find any rules on the location of transponders on a car.

5.6.2 When personal transponders are used, these must be fastened to the vehicle in
a permanent manner. All host-provided (“public”) transponders must be
mounted in a position that will ensure reliable reception by the computer
system. The race director can direct the placement of transponders, and can
require a change of position in the event of bad reception. If a transponder is
not installed, is lost, or falls out during a race, the driver will not be scored in
that race. The driver is responsible for ensuring that the correct transponder is
fitted to the vehicle, or that the correct personal transponder number has been
provided for the scoring program. If duplicate transponder numbers are
received at registration then the original AMB transponder number has priority
over the duplicate. Placing a transponder in a location that may damage the
transponder is prohibited. Final results will be based on the transponder counts.
So I don't understand why everyone does not put them as far forward as possible on their cars.

On many cars it would interfere with the suspension or body fitment, short course and stadium truck is easy to put them up front though.
Doesn't make a difference for qualifying, for finals at large meetings aren't they supposed to have a camera taking photos of the line to verify which car was first? Not that this happens much I guess.

One downside is if you do a wheelstand over the line and it's in the front you might raise it high enough to not count

To add, to move it forward, you often have to move it up which can create counting issues if the loop is buried in the ground.

Possible but not often. Look at how many SC newbs use house PT's and have them mounted in the hood or front window. If a person is having counting issues with their PT mounted 3 inches off the ground there's a problem.

But I see your point.

House transponders (the red rechargeable's) actually produce a stronger signal than pt. That's why they work well. That came from AMB back when it was AMB.. :sneaky:

Didn’t this happen at the Snowbirds a couple years back? Hupo Honigl and Mike Blackstock I think it was were going at it. Most everyone thought Blackstock’s car was in the lead at the line by a couple inches, but with the transponder locations Honigl got the win. Just like the last line in the OP quote.
