I run tekin rx8, t8 1900kv motor, 4s battery and my gearing is 17/46. after about 11 minutes of running its so hot i cant even hold my finger on it for a second. i put a 15t pinion on and it still got to about the same temp, whats the problem? THANKS GUYS!

I wont be to much help. but i also run the 1900 but i'm geared 14/46 with no real complaints of top end. 15/46 i would say would be a good ratio for most tracks.. i come off a 10min main usually like 130-140 range.

*EDIT*
With mugen Mbx6

With what car? on what size track?

IOP_Racer 09-17-2012 02:10 PM

Are you bashing or racing? What buggy? I have a 1700 running very similar pinion/spur to you. I can run for 25 mins plus and my motor comes off at 135. That is track driving though.

the tracks i ran at are pretty big, + on the straight away other e buggys are usually a few couple mph faster than me but i dont want to gear up 1 because of my temp issue

Go up to a 19-20T pinion.

No, you're geared too low for that car so your motor is basically running max RPM more often then it should. Brushless can run hot if undergeared as well, they need a load.

Thank you soooooo much! i dont know why i didnt ask this question a long time ago! i really appreciate it!

No problem. It's common to want to gear down when your motor is running hot, but sometimes that can make it worse. I would bet you were topping out early on the straight, you mentioned some other cars were faster. Now you should be on par.

+1, What Ty said.

I used to run a 1900 in my D8 and with a 19 or 20t pinion it would be lucky to get up to 140.. Still had TONS of rip, maybe a little too much but the higher pinion would tame the bottom end down a bit, a very good thing!

I tried it with a 19 and 20t pinion. After 11 minutes of running the temps weren't as high but after about 16 minutes of running it was around the same as 11 minutes with a 17t pinion. Would I be ok to keep running pack after pack? Also what's a good cheap temp checker

I am running a 1900 in Mugen ECO. With 14/46 gears. On a med. sizedl indoor track it is running around 160 to 170 deg. Should I gear up or down?

That's about right for indoor. You could bump up a tooth if you feel you need it.
