Onyx 235 VS. ICE - Help question

I have a Duratrax ICE charger with an external Hyperon balancer, that I have been using for quite some time with no issues.

Recently I ordered an Onyx 235, as I thought It would be nice to plug into the wall to charge, rather than lug a dedicated automotive battery to the track to use the charger with.

(have been doing that for quite some time, and though its not that big of a deal, it is getting old.)

I havent opened the Onyx 235 yet, as I am having buyers remorse. It is really worth the $85 or so for the Onyx 235 or am I better off just sticking with the ICE that I already own, and return the Onyx.

I guess I dont know the true pros and cons, and from what I have read on Duratax web site, though the Onyx 235 is newer, it seems as if the ICE has better features.

Can anyone shed a little light on whats the main difference between the two rather than just the AC/DC capability of the Onyx. (again I already have an external balancer.)

Thanks

OG

I'd be inclined to agree with you. The ice has it beat in almost every spec/feature. Most important to me was the lower total power of 70 watts vs. 120 watts.

I think the only thing the onyx would have over the ice is that it is more compact and simpler because it has the balancer and the ps inside it.

My Onyx 235 has been slightly modded to allow 8 amps and 70 watts on AC power only. I like it because it is a simple charger. I think we can do a lot better though for $85 with some cheap chinese chargers on the market.

Same here I have this charger for a year. Fan makes noise but this thing can go seven hours straight when I'm at the track.
