Default Are cheap shorty packs out there?

With more and more cars, from 1/10th buggies, to short course, to many onroad cars, taking advantage of the 'shorty' lipo pack configuration, I'm kinda surprised I haven't seen a Gens Ace, or Turnigy, or other lower priced battery brands.

Have I just missed them? Or there really aren't any yet?

Maybe not super duper cheap, ~50 to 60 bucks. With fast delivery and actual customer service, if you care about such things:

Pro-Match shorty

CRC shorty

SpeedZone shorty

No problem Chad. Are you going to the Superbowl or whatever at AMS? If so you can give one a try if you like. I'll be without my team driver so I'll have extras.

thanks for the offer Dave, but i am running carpet down in Hillsdale for the winter, so I am afraid my cars are set-up a little stiff for playing in the dirt,LOL..Have fun and hope you do well though.

Honestly guys, if you are not trapped in a shorty dependant car/setup, don't start. They are just too lightweight, and puff way too easily. I really hope that this trend dies or it will hurt the hobby.

In my opinion what really hurt the hobby were the LiPo manufacturers who immediately obsoleted a bunch of older cars because the new batteries wouldn't fit. I'm really excited about the "Shorty" packs since for the first time I can pull a few of the older cars off the shelf and have a LiPo that will fit. My only problem has been finding one for a reasonable price. I'm sorry, but I refuse to pay $100 for a battery.

Depends on the car, and the LiPo.

I've been running the Promatch shorty in my Losi 22, Kyosho Ultima SC, and B4.1, and I have nothing but great things to say about it. I'll be ordering another as soon as it's back in stock.

p.s. No car is "shorty dependant."

Picked up a pair of these for testing. I don't have the bench equipment to run any hard empirical tests, but on the few track runs I've made, they feel comparable to the Xcelorin shorty pack I've got. I can help share any info or answer any questions anyone might have.

The "Fusion" batteries are a pretty good price. Each pack came out to ~$50 apiece after express shipping (took a little less than a week from China).

+2 Shorty dependent cars shouldn't be a problem, ROAR has a new rule to prevent it:

Electric Chassis Rule Amendment

Feel your pain, but it's hardly limited to lipos. The later nimh cells don't fit in my vintage stuff either.

What I meant by shorty dependent- yes a full size pack will fit, but the car will not perform at it's best with it in there. It's a band-aid for a chassis that is too stiff and doesn't generate enough traction on low grip surfaces. It's just my opinion, no one has to agree with me.
