servos overheating

I have 2 airtronics 94362 servos and a 94361 (all metal gear) they worked perfect until i got an m11x. now they are seeing temps over 150 and one of them now makes a permanent grinding sound.

does the m11x transmitter and reciever send more voltage to the servos compared to the m11? (what i had before)

Older analog servos don't always work right with the modern radios. The way the input data is streamed to them on newer high-speed 2.4 equipment makes them often try to move/twitch/"grind" constantly even if you can't see it. If you can change the "framerate" or response speed on that radio, try a slower one and see if that helps. I had an Airtronics 737 that was the perfect 1/10th pan car servo but it was also left behind by the digital radio revolution.

thanks for the response. ill try that first. but it looks like im going to have to replace my prized old school airtronics collection :cry:

Yeah, can't stop "progress"....

so what is the latest and greatest servo for 1/10th scale truck, buggy, and 4wd?

i have an orion vortex servo that i got in a trade and it is insanely fast

The Orions are pretty good. I personally have switched to almost all Futaba BLS servos in my stuff. Their excellent response to input time means they really outperform their actual, listed transit speed specs on the track while being unbelievably smooth along the way. If you want to save a few bucks and are racing a class not prone to brown-out issues due to current draw, i.e. 4wd SC, etc., the Savox line offers good value for the money.

ok cool, what model savox servo should i be shopping for? highspeed for 2wd and 4wd, high torque truck

MarkA 07-25-2012 09:20 AM

1257 or 1258 depending on your personal spec preferences.

copmgnt 07-25-2012 09:27 AM

thanks! what is the difference?

copmgnt 07-25-2012 09:55 AM

and how does the 1268 compare?

The 1268 is a "high voltage" servo designed to be used in gas cars with the newer 7.2v lipo receiver packs.

ahhh gotcha, definitely dont need that. you have helped me immensely, thank you!

just talked to airtronics. they said that if i am using analog servos (which i am) then i need to go to "setup" and switch all channels to "nor" mode.

I had the same problem when I switched to an m11x with my older airtronics servos burnt 2 of them out. Once I set the radio up for the analog servos havent had anymore problems.
