Default What does blinky mean?

I'm back after aloof years and all this stuff is new. So in concrete oval racing, there is a class that is 17.5 blinky. Can someone explain?

Newer speed controls can add timing to the motor, thus making a 17.5 about as fast as a 10.5. When the timing feature is turned off, the esc has a light that will blink when in neutral, thus the term "blinky". This is to avoid giving someone a HUGE advantage in power, although there are classes that are 17.5 with open timing, it depends on the track (or race).

Turbo usually refer to when an ESC adds timing at a specific rpm, and when a certain throttle point is reached. Regular timing advance or Boost is added during all RPMs of the motor.

I think you have an typo Hoese. Boosted is when the ESC - speed control adds timing advance, not the motor. Opposite of blinky, where only motor endbell timing advance is allowed.

A couple other terms for boosted are dynamic timing, and ramping timing. The timing varies by RPM, getting maximum performance at all RPMs and load conditions is the goal. Then a little extra kicker for the end of longer straights as alluded to.
