I can get under FDR 8: 1 with the 4.5t red? I tried from 9.6: 1 to 8: 1 with various combinations of timing and endbell but I can not make it go faster. I saw that the motor is a copy of the reedy and I saw on the various setup sheets that atsushi Hara in 2012 had FDR 7.28 with reedy 4.5. The temps with 8: 1 were low, 45 degrees after 5 minutes

Anyone else notice the 20-30% price rise in them in the past week?

Yeah, I noticed it, I bought a 17.5 V2 when they came out. I just looked & the price shows about $10 more than I paid. So I signed in the price stayed $10 over, but when I selected the US warehouse it was only about $1 difference from what I paid.
I have noticed many items have gone up, but I usually don't sign in. Definitely confusing.

What FDR would most people use with a 21.5?

Track is fairly large, lap time around 23s, fairly flowing with a couple of slow corners, and low-ish grip

The trackstar 21.5 needs to be geared up or it's a slug. FDR around 2.9-3.1 area

Here in Holland on the big nitro tracks with laptimes arround 20 sec, they use a rollout off about 100.

Is that with full timing or no?

Is there a notable performance difference between the v1 and v2 motors? what has it equated to in lap time differences? (might snag a v1 cheap if there isn't much difference).

I'm running 2.7 with mine. I'm finding it just doesn't have enough speed on the straight. Do you think going up to around 3 would help me?

I believe so. They are very different in design and performance. I have been running the 13.5t and 17.5t motors and they are just a fast as any racer at a very competitive track that I frequent.
I have never been able to get the v1 motors even close in performance. (poor RPM output)
I believe the V2 motors are of a short stack design with hi torque rotors so they have nice grunt and RPM. For $50 it the best motor I have ever run. It easily competes with my $170 Fantom D4 for 1/3rd the cost.
So far I have had zero problems with any of the (4) V2 motors I have purchased.
I'm a happy camper!
