I can get under FDR 8: 1 with the 4.5t red? I tried from 9.6: 1 to 8: 1 with various combinations of timing and endbell but I can not make it go faster. I saw that the motor is a copy of the reedy and I saw on the various setup sheets that atsushi Hara in 2012 had FDR 7.28 with reedy 4.5. The temps with 8: 1 were low, 45 degrees after 5 minutes

Yeah, I noticed it, I bought a 17.5 V2 when they came out. I just looked & the price shows about $10 more than I paid. So I signed in the price stayed $10 over, but when I selected the US warehouse it was only about $1 difference from what I paid.
I have noticed many items have gone up, but I usually don't sign in. Definitely confusing.

Is there a notable performance difference between the v1 and v2 motors? what has it equated to in lap time differences? (might snag a v1 cheap if there isn't much difference).

I have never been able to get the v1 motors even close in performance. (poor RPM output)
I believe the V2 motors are of a short stack design with hi torque rotors so they have nice grunt and RPM. For $50 it the best motor I have ever run. It easily competes with my $170 Fantom D4 for 1/3rd the cost.
So far I have had zero problems with any of the (4) V2 motors I have purchased.
I'm a happy camper!
