Default Soldering Station Suggestions

I'm looking for a sub $100 soldering station. As of right now I'm looking at a Hakko FX-888. Any others that rank better for RC soldering applications?

That one seems to be a top recommendation. I found the best price on Amazon, IIRC.

I found eBay has them a couple bucks cheaper with warranty. Whats a good all around tip for that unit? Any other upgrades needed or tips? I've been using a Weller soldering gun and tired of the bulkyness and going through a tip a week.

You can't go wrong with the FX-888, I just bought one about a month ago. Comes up to temp fast and stays there. It's very light and the cord is great how flexible it is. I would recommend ordering a chisel tip for it, the tip that comes with the station is a pointed one that doesn't work well for soldering wires to ESCs and motors. I went with this one, it works great.

PS. don't forget to get some flux too!!

I use a Trak Power TK 950 and find it to be an excellent soldering iron. Tried to use cheaper ones before this and they just didn't cut it. Switching over to this model was night and day for me.

Hey Josh, this is Shawn. I have the Hakko FX888. It is awesome. Just make sure you get the chisel tip (I can't remember if it is included or not). I can bring mine to the track this week if you want to check it out.

Paid 15 bucks for a Craftsman 45w unit. Came with a chisel, pointed tip, and stand. Works great, solder instantly melts for quick joints.
