Do a search and you will see a weeks worth of reading on these batts.

Thunder Power seems to be the "other" very expensive battery company, but I think Max Amps gets all the 'bad" or negative comments. Check out the price of a 65c 6600 mAh T.P. battery....yow! Huck50

Iknow they're good but I just can't see myself paying 100 bucks for a 5000 may battery

Adamska27 05-25-2012 03:50 PM

wow, ok, u guys probably haven't been in r/c as long as some of us so i'll try to keep this short

as long as there has been r/c there has been overinflated/overhyped battery numbers at low low prices that have been sold to the masses

the prices on max amps are similar to the thunder power and i'm partial to orion batts

put a cheap 5000 mah 40c on the battery tester and it will show less voltage under load than a good quality of same/lesser rating

big squid did a decent test but they only get a limited selection of products

voltage under load = more rpm, torque, speed
cheap stuff is cheap stuff

I am new I got my first rc in january I guess ill just stay away from maxamps since I don't have the $$$ ill probably be stuck with bad gens aces for now

The same can be said about the more expensive batteries ;) just saying.

I'm not a fan of maxamps preformance. There Great lipo's when new but they fall off VERY quickly compared to other brands in my experiance. I havn't run one in a few years though.

I can say though that in some aspects I am a HUGE fan of Maxamps. They take a lot of the money they make and reinvest it in R/C comunities and events. Last year they sent us 3 of there brand new 2S lipos, a few t-shirts, and some other stuff for a benifit race we had for the local free clinic. They sent us the BEST package of any of our sponsers last year. Traxxas was number 2. Every year we have the race and every year they send us a new slash kit to raffle off for some extra money for the clinic.

Unless your pack is tested and graphed you have no idea what you're buying weather it's a $10 pack or a $100 pack....

Look at my sig and do some research, you can say you've got the best lipo on the planet but unless you have some hard data to show me I'm not listening.;)

what you just stated says it all. they over price their batteries so they can give free stuff away to make themselves look real good as does most any company you ask.. their really isn't any difference between batteries unlike the old nicad "matched" packs. i know alot of people useing the cheaper ones and are on top. this is actually something you can't really argue about as there are only a couple places that make the batteries. orion doesn't make them, someone make them for them. all it is is a name you're paying for.

it's like saying Avid Bearings makes them themselves. they choose certain specs and that is what they get and put their name on it.

AreCee 05-26-2012 06:43 AM

Because they can. Retail prices can be set at whatever the market will bear.

Rockthecatbox21 05-27-2012 11:15 AM

You're just paying for the brand. I will never buy maxamps ever. Have always used turnigy lipos and will probably use nothing else except for maybe gens ace (they make a great battery). It's the exact same reason apple products are so expensive.

electrickid 05-27-2012 01:42 PM

I just recently bought some max amps batteries; their performance is awesome. Plus the three year 300 cycle warranty makes the price worth it.

Why do you think Gens ace batteries are bad? They make awesome batteries!

littlealex 05-27-2012 02:02 PM

gens ace would be a good option. they offer affordable price with unmatched power. but they may have bad cell sometimes

Huck50 05-27-2012 05:18 PM

I think Max Amps and Thunder Power can be compared to similar other items, for example: Would you pay $600.00 for a Dyson vacuum cleaner when a $75.00 Bissell will do the job,or how about using a $30.00 Snap On 1/2"-9/16" combination wrench when a $12.00 Craftsman will do the same thing...cars also,a $25,000 Malibu or a $90,000 starter Mercedes...both will get you there,it's how you wanna get there.
Maybe the only guys that can use those kind of batteries (MA and TP) are pro racers, who don't have to pay for non of their gear?!
I wonder how many first place guys were running Gens Ace or Turnigy batteries??,I bet, not many! Huck50
