I don't have one yet (plan on getting one) but my guess is that it is totally normal. The fan will be thermally controlled turning on when the system gets to a certain temp and then off again when it goes below some temp. When discharging a battery the system will generate a lot of heat and kick the fan on.

Im not knocking this charger but why is everyone in love with this charger? There are better chargers out there for 200 dollars IMO.

I was liking it for all of the features. The charge discharge cycle plus can charge 4 batteries at once...honestly I'm just getting back into this, are there other chargers with the same feature set?

powerlab 6. Can charge 6 batteries and do everything else plus is the only charger I have seen bring ball a dead cell. Really any fma/revolectrix charger would be better.

yes the fan does go off and on frequently and more so with bigger cell count batteries, will even stay on for long periods at a time

Better is a matter of perspective. For those of us with wives, girlfriends, and/or kids that go the Hitec is awesome. "You use the two on the left for your packs, let me do everything else on the right side." Just makes things simpler. My other half would never be able to manage more than one pack with the FMA, she's comfortable with the Hitec. I dragged $$$ chargers and power supplies back and forth to and from the track since the days of the original Turbocharger, and really the Hitec does just about everything I need now in one unit - my old power supply cost almost as much new as this charger, and that's long since been sold. Being the most capable or most technical option doesn't always make something the best option.

Yes, there are more expensive units out there... and chargers with more features... this is a bang for the buck situation, for us at least. I do still have a "better" Hyperion charger sitting here as a bench charger, which has been sitting untouched since I bought the Hitec. :)

The only disclaimer I have is that we ONLY run 2s lipo packs (and one 3s tx pack,) which is right in this chargers wheelhouse. If I ever ran higher cell count packs, I'd possibly go another route.

Yes. Only at the end in the balancing phase the current will drop to a few hundred milliamps.
