Which ESC for this motor?

I plan on putting it into a AE b4.1

What are you looking to spend and what radio system are you using?

Looking to spend no more than $250 for the esc/motor.

I'm using the stock radio that came with the b4.1 rtr

What is everyone at your local track running? The Tekin RS is the most popular ESC Localy but there are a few of us running LRP's, in superstock (13.5) buggy most are running the cheaper competition spec, I am running the stock spec just because its what I have. I love the feel of mine with my reedy 13.5, the low end power feels like running mod buggy and the LRP is super smooth compared to how my tekin felt (I havn't run a tekin since version 208 though and I've heard they have gotten better) the downfall of running the LRP is that there isn't a lot of help on setting it up, I kind of have to figure things out on my own, which is where you would have some advantage running a tekin here because everybody and there brother knows the software and can give you help figureing out how to set the ESC to suit you.

Tekin's are the cheapest GOOD boosted esc that money can buy IMHO, customer support is excellent and I've only ever seen issue with 2 ESC's and tekin had them replaced within 2 weeks of the original complaint. I've seen no other company with support like that on electronics.

Castle's Mamba Max Pro is a big esc and you will have trouble fitting it into your buggy, they also have some softare issues with the esc hesitating on takeoff that I don't know if they have fixed yet or not.

Speed Passion ESC's are okay but they as well were having software issues a year or so ago that would turn the boost feature on and off because they thought the voltage in the battery was droping below cut-off when it wasn't. They are just really power hungry. Your okay if you have a good newish 50c+ lipo. I've had issues with their customer service however.

I dont have a whole lot of experiance with novak. There brushed stuff is great but I had a GTB go bad on me 2 laps into a mod 4wd buggy race that left the ESC in full throttle mode with a 4 turn orion brushless motor. The car turned itself back into a kit after driving itself through the pit area and I never ran another Novak. (and yes it was the esc and not the rx, the solder joints went bad inside the esc and bridged two connections, I still had steering and was able to avoid hitting anyone)

Castle MMPro should fit without the fan, & Tekin makes awesome stuff.
A Tekin RS (non Pro) will work great even with mild mod motors.

Personally I avoid Novak (my opinion)
LRP's newer stuff may have some tweaks, but I havent read up on it lately.
I have both Tekin & Castle & love them both.

Tekin, nice for boosted classes, not as smooth as others for mod racing (10.5 and lower) their new software is suppose to be better though. Had one, didn't like it much.

LRP, very nice for mod, smoother than Tekin, IMO. Still have 2 SXX v2's

Orion R10...nicest esc on the market IMO. Have 2 and will buy more if I ever need to.

Tekin RS might be the only one that would fit in your price range if you're buying new though.

Felt the same way at first. With the new software, it's just as smooth as any LRP I've ever used. The brakes are nuts, it's tiny, super adjustable, and it runs cool.

Guys I run with have said the same, I went to LRP before the new Tekin software came out. For me, Orion is better than both.

Tekin = LRP < Orion...:D

thanks for all the tips. I wonder if I could use the esc that came with the buggy and run a 13.5T motor. At least until I decide on the ESC.

You "could" use the stock ESC, but it will likely be very coggy & not feel totally right.

If you keep it on a roll, & understand there is better you can do it.

You want to spend $250 for an ESC/Motor combo for your $250 RTR buggy?:weird:

If you need a sensored setup to run 13.5 to be legal to race at your local track, I can understand. Do yourself a favor and spend as little as possible so you can save up and get a better radio and steering servo and ditch that RTR stuff.

The Novak haters will want to tie you to a stake but that is a very viable option.
