Default need suggestions for a brushless esc for a 7 year old

I'm in the market for a sensored brushless ESC for my 7 year old's slash. Right now I'm looking at either a Tekin RS / RS Pro (whichever I can find a good deal on used) or a Traxxas Vilineon VXL-3s, but other suggestions are welcome. Obviously price is a concern, but it's not the only concern. Even more important than initial cost is likelihood he'll fry the thing. I know there are exceptions, but generally speaking it seems the Tekin has a good reputation for reliability. I've had very good luck with my RS Pro, and everyone at our track running Tekin is happy. I don't know much about Traxxas ESC's, but I do like the fact that the Vilineon is relatively inexpensive and is waterproof, as there is a creek running behind the house. And though he will be bashing, he's very interested in racing and he will probably be entering his first race next week in the under 16 division.

Thanks in advance!

My son has a Tamiya DT02 chassis with a 17.5t Hobbywing combo. Easy to adjust with their program board and not as expensive as Castle Creations.

If its available, I've been impressed with the Novak Edge. $100 new and runs blinky classes as well as anything else. If boosted is also expected from this ESC, then count the edge out.

I really like the hobbywing's as well, but as they are not always available, this would be a good option that hobbyshops carrying novak would probably have.

Thanks for the responses everyone! I ended up buying the brushlesshobbies rebadged Hobby Wing. I figure at that price, it's worth a shot, and it won't hurt my feelings too badly if he does smoke it. And if it works out well, maybe I'll use one of those if / when I get around to building my own short course truck.

as an update, having some concerns over my order with brushlesshobbies.com . I ordered the ESC on monday morning. Monday evening I went to the site and noticed a message that the item was on backorder, and it should be back in stock on Tuesday. I emailed [email protected] to see if I had managed to get one of the last in-stock ones or if I was on backorder, and if on backorder, was he still expecting a shipment on Tuesday. I received no reply. Then today I received a message saying my email bounced because his mailbox had filled up. I've been trying to call the number periodically as well, it just rings and rings and nobody picks up. I'm starting to get a bit concerned, I guess I'll give it some more time and if I don't hear anything I'll start taking actions with paypal to get my money back. Grr. Oh well.

the problem is he can't respond to a message he didn't receive. and if I can't email him or reach him on the phone, then I'm not sure where to go from here. I'll give it another day or two, hopefully this will all work itsself out.

If it helps at all, I e-mail him late Monday evening, and received an e-mail back from Tuesday mid-day, and again today. I emailed him at [email protected]

Not sure if the capital S makes a difference or not.
