Futaba S-FHSS R2106GF for surface use? Yes.

I know the crawler guys have been using the R2106GF for a while. It is compact, has 6 channels, and is relatively inexpensive (can be had for as little as $30 each). I wanted to find out if it would work in more of a basher setting. I put one in my favorite basher, a castle powered brushless CRT.5. It is in the picture, mounted underneath the rear center drive shaft. The servo leads coming out of the end makes wire routing fairly simple. Even though it is larger than a spektrum 3500, it is lower profile because of this. It also has a very short 1/2" antenna. Futaba states it is for indoor aircraft and park flyers since it only has a range of 300 meters.

Our cul-de-sac is about 500 feet from one end to the other. I drove my little truck all the way to the end and up a neighbor's driveway with full control and no glitching. At that point I could barely see it. My next test will be to see if it holds up in a VTA race in a couple of weeks.

Used in a race

They let me race my CRT in the novice class and, while I only could make two heats since my kids were getting antsy, it did just fine. I am not brave enough to use it in my brushless d8 yet though.

One more little addition. The Align R6GF is a relabeled version of this ESC that also bind with the 4PL and is a bit cheaper at ebay chop shop Value RC.

I used the receiver again for racing this weekend and had no problems at all with it.
