Testing a motor?

Is there a way to test a motor without plugging it into my esc? Or could it damage the esc if something is wrong with the motor? Received an integy 55t in a lot and want to test it. Thanks

Not likely to harm anything if you plug it in, wire it up, and test it with the esc.
