brushless technical question
 

OK I'm very new to brushless motors and I'm going crazy trying to figure this out. OK here's my question or maybe problem, the viper vst 10.5t is 3100kv 255 Watt, the novak ballistic spec 10.5 is 4200kv 235 Watt, the tekin redline 10.5 is 4500kv 243 Watt. OK the novak and tekin numbers are similar so I could most likely expect similar performance from either how does the viper come up with the kv that low and the wattage that high? How would it even compare to the others? If the kv is rpm at a given voltake the viper is going to be a turtle right? Or am I just missing something? Thanks.

Gear them all for the same speed and the motor capable of making more power should run cooler

Or if you like ..........

Motor capable of making more power should be able to be geared for a higher speed while maintaining similar temps

If I were a betting man the Viper motor is not ROAR approved & not wound within the specs most manufactures like Tekin, LRP, Epic, Orion & Novak would use.

The "lower KV / higher wattage" would indicate more of a torque motor to me.
Sure it is wound 10.5 times, but with what wire?

Are you looking for a 10.5 specifically & are you racing in a spec class?

As far as 540 sized motors go, I have had great sucess with LRP, Epic,& old used Novak SS's.
I avoid Novak Balistic for sensor heads, & Tekins for soft shafts & PITA to service the sensor head.

Power is essentially RPM times torque, I agree that indicates the power band peaks at a lower RPM with more torque for the Viper. It might like more gear as is.

Don’t most if not all have adjustable timing? Might come set differently stock, suspect that could be significant in the kV rating, should change the power band some. Are the testing methods/equipment for watts the same?
