Slash issues

I am currently running a Slash with mmp esc, stock servo, and flysky GT3b transmitter. I am having an issue where the steering will either work or it won't when the slash is powered on. The throttle always works, but the steering may or may not randomly. I have tried different radio receivers which work fine in my other cars. If I turn it on and the steering works it doesn't quit again until restart.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I have been suggested:
1. Bad servo
2. Add separate BEC
3. Add glitch capicitor to receiver
4. Bad power switch
I would love info from someone who has dealt with this before, but I am leaning toward the separate BEC since everything works over half of the time...

Stock servo should not cause bec issues allthough I wouldnt rule it out

Fit an external bec to take it out of the equation

Cheers

I use a FlySky GT3B, and I've got a 6Ch RX in my Slash 4x4. It runs the stock steering servo without issue, this is with the original VXL-3S ESC and now the SC8 I've got in it.

Servo's probably shot.

Would that make it work fine sometimes and not at all others?

Water/corrosion in the servo, broken wire (break any 1 of three and it'll stop working.), failing servo controller, dying servo motor.

Is there any way to test a servo?

Plug it into your throttle channel and see if you can operate it with your throttle instead.

Direct drive on red and black with 5V?

NO. Just try plugging in another servo and see what happens.

The problem with these methods is it works most of the time and there is no way to tell when it won't work (except right before a race, that's usually when it stops :))
